ok then lets go back on topic... How many Cubans can we get to play Cantr and how? Let's put out Anti-Castro propaganda. And lets pull people off of that dumb game Cybriq (foriegn language people) Them seeing Cantr's elegant interface next to that Vegas Strip-esque Cybriq interface should do it all by itself.

There, Back on topic

Live flexibly, and solutions present themselves...

Italian & others

Postby Junesun » Sat Feb 07, 2004 9:31 am

Hi,

I'd be interested in playing Cantr in Italian, too. And in Esperanto. And in Chinese, though I'm only a beginner in Chinese.
If you're interested, I can translate that advertising text to French, Italian and Esperanto (and German, if you don't have it yet), have it checked by some native speakers and go on some forums in those languages to promote Cantr.
Btw Jos, didn't you mention something about a Latin version of Cantr?

I want to play in Esperanto too :) ... And if you could translate the add, that would be cool. We must have French and German somewhere, though. If you would be interested in helping out translating the site to Italian and/or Esperanto, please mail personnel@cantr.net :) ...

Are there already other players around who would be interested in those languages?

Latin would also be quite cool, but are there enough people being able to actively use that language? It's hard to play when you are really very much a beginner. I find it hard to play in Russian, for example, even after having had classes in it for quite a while.

Really any language is acceptable, as long as there are enough people. The French, Russian and Spanish groups are really too small, and that doesn't work very well.

Here's the translation of the ad into Italian. It has been corrected by a native speaker already. I made the Esperanto translation already, too, and send it to another Esperantists for corrections and suggestions (it's better to double-check the ads because they should make a good first impression), but didn't receive it back yet.
When you find the French ad, post it here and I'll post it at some French places I visit.

"Gioco gratuito online: Cantr II

creare i propri personaggi in italiano. Provalo ora!

Il commento più comune è che a un primo approccio il gioco appare poco
entusiasmante, ma già dopo pochi giorni (il gioco è fatto così che ogni giorno si gioca alcuni minuti) non se ne può più fare a meno."

Oh btw: I replaced 'Russian' with 'Italian' or 'Esperanto' respectively because I think people reading an ad in Italian are more interested in knowing whether they can play Cantr in their language than in knowing that the Russian version is being developed ;-)

Esperanto translation

Postby Junesun » Wed Feb 11, 2004 8:24 am

Here's the Esperanto translation of the ad:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Senpaga reta ludo: Cantr II

Oni povas krei plurajn malsimilajn rolantojn, kiuj povas fari karierojn kiel politikistoj, komercistoj, militistoj, diplomatoj auh iun ajn kiun vi povas imagi.

La ludo estas tradukata en Esperanto. La traduko nur estas parte kompleta (chia helpo pri tio estus bonvena!), sed vi jam povas ludi viajn rolantojn en Esperanto.

Provu ghin!

http://www.cantr.net

La plejmulto de la homoj spertas ke ghi shajnas enuiga unue, sed post kelkaj tagoj (la ludo kreighis por ludi kelkajn minutojn tage) ili estas
dependaj!"

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Btw: I noticed that you always wind up in a city where everybody speaks the language you chose. Are these cities on different worlds (so you can't possibly travel to e. g. a Russian-speaking city), different continents or very close to each other?

What do you mean by "French, Russian and Spanish groups"?
Everywhere I've been, people speak English...
Are there special places where another language's spoken?
(Please, excuse those newbie's dumby questions! :? )

Yes, the different language groups have all been placed in different areas. The areas are all in one game world, however, so language groups can and have me(e)t.

I'd join the French or Spanih regions to help the numbers out but that's just not possible with the number of chars I have. Maybe one day I'll have reduced the number significantly and be able to join in other areas.

Really my commentary was about the ad's I think those help,I also noticed that people were visiting the cantr home page in my college simply because I logged on in the labs and they would see the address in the line history.

Also, are those ads going to be linked? I mean will someone place them on a link then put them on the players page of every player.I'd like to print a few. :)

Oh, but if you want to print the ads, there are the posters already linked ... Those are for printing and distributing on notice boards etc. In case you can't find them:

Dutch
English
German
Russian

If anyone is willing to translate the text to other languages, that would of course be greatly appreciated :) ...

For active translators: see also the new staff recruitment page ;) ...

Jos, you said you already have the French translation of the ad. Would you please post it so that I can spread it on the French web?
