Sailing the blue

Postby Alcatraz » Fri Nov 02, 2007 7:54 am

I've just hopped back into the cantr wagon after a few years off.

Wow, a lot has changed!

I'm really interested in all the new boat stuff. I have a character avidly pursuing this.

I'm wondering if anyone's tried out sailing with sails, multiple sails, multiple masts, and how hard they found it to get all those darn materials, and how cool it feels to have a real boat.

Garr, large rope!

Speaking of sailing, anyone remember me asking how big the world is?

One of my characters built two masts on a raker and I think there's enough resources for all the sails now but I don't think anyone has installed those yet. It basically takes a whole community several years of effort to equip a ship with masts and sails. I hear masts and sails are pretty common on Polish ships though.

An excellent addition to the game. Mine have built them all and i can say they are well worth going to the effort of making and not that hard to achieve getting for your boat. I'm not going to say just how much they improve things because you can find out and be truely amazed ingame. Definately a plus for any sailor.

I've seen two rakers doing amazing speeds. My character was sailing in a raker without any improvements, and was overtaken by one as if she was looking for parking. The sails vastly improve the performance of the rakers especially, she's now definately looking towards adding those sails.

I think I saw the same raker, that white line thingy must have been an inch and a half long.

Huntress of Kii? That one went blazing past me in one turn recently, is that a modded Raker?

Yeah, that's where I put the masts. I assume that means the sails were installed. W00t! Except that I don't have the key for that one anymore, that's not so yay.

I character of mine is about to get sails installed in it's sloop. I am looking forward to seeing the difference.

We're about to install several masts and sails on ours. Maybe even all of the ones possible. We probably won't zoom since we have like 3-5 ships docked to us (sloops and stuff) and like a whole bunch of crew and cargo...

Actually, that will make the difference even more noticeable. I expect you will see a three to six fold increase in your ship's speed if you build all of the sails. The sails multiply the base speed, so big ships (with the +100% speed) will move at their current speed, plus the speed of the ship if it were unloaded.

Ah could the days of choosing a direction and sailing for years and years and wondering which will come first; land or starvation, be over?
