"A" Cantr hour or "An" Cantr hour?

Postby Joshuamonkey » Thu Sep 13, 2007 3:21 am

There are 20 days in a year, 8 hours in a day, 36 minutes in a hour.

Isn't it "an" hour?

I even looked it up, lol.

Yeah. It is.
But I hate... Just HATE.... When people go all "an house" it's a lot worse than "a hour"

1. Yes, it is "an hour." Use "an" before a vowel sound, including one with a silent h.

2. It would "a Cantr hour." The article is determined by the next word. "A" vs. "an" is a matter of making pronunciation easier.

3. It's really not that important unless the writing is going to be published. It's good to know the rules for when you need them, but don't let them distract you from content in a fun context.
