Sleeping Beauty

How long would you let a sleeper sleep... before you fed them? How long do you feed them ..while they sleep? We already know... if someone is not logging in at all, the account times out.... and leave is 90 days (if you check your account while it is on leave.. does your 90 days start over?)
so if the carrie sleeps more than 90 days... you know the player is logging in..just not playing the charri...

Anyways... if they never awoke... how long would you feed them? When is it appropriate to say.. "ok you have slept for 10/? cantr years... I am moving on with my life...*?

Just curious :)

Hmm, if the character would be a good friend of my char, I would feed them a very long time. (If there's plenty of food, forever) Just hoping he will return some day.. It wouldn't be too much work, just drag him into a room, and once a year I get in, give him a few kilo's of bread. And there it goes: Never-Ending life for all who's my friend! 8)
(If it's just a newspawn, I wouldn't even give him a slice of bread!)

This one charrie slept for approximately 110 days, only woke up a couple of times to start repairs and that's it. I didn't even know her that well but fed her out of duty. Then she woke up and has been an active community member ever since. There was another character who slept for about the same amount of time but apparently died in the end. It depends a lot on how much food you have available and if you need to pay much attention to getting it.

I remember this one person was taking care of an old friend who had been sleeping for a long time. She woke up briefly and was moved to another location with us. I think she fell asleep again on the way there. We were feeding her but then we got too occupied with having sex and forgot to feed her so then she died. We both felt guilty about it.

It's kinda like this comic in Perry Bible Fellowship where a guy is reading a book about "Taking care of your turtle" and then a woman steps to the door and says "Lets do it and never stop" and the next thing you know the turtle is dead. :( Poor widdle turtle... So if you're supposed to feed someone then you should hire someone else to take care of it if you're planning to get busy... because it always takes longer than intended.

Unless asked by them I wouldn't. I don't think its hard to make sure yours charries have enough food if you know your going to be away or not playing for a bit.

I couldn't play for around 3 months but still managed to make sure 12 of mine had enough food to last the time. In 3 months of not playing I lost none of my 14 people.

It all depends on the situation, but if it is a newspawn who goes to sleep for a long time right after they spawn(have had it happen several times) then I would not feed them at all because obviously they are not wanting to play the character, so you are just wasting food. However, if it is a good friend who asks you to feed them till the wake back up then I would definetly do it for a very long time. Finally, if it is a friend or acquaintance that just falls asleep and doesn't wake up for a long time I say it all has to do with your food supply, and your characters character. Is your character the kind of person that would give alot of his food away to someone who is just sleeping their days away, or not?

But what if it's a newspawn who seems to like the place and gives a positive first impression? The ones that don't say a thing are a whole 'nother case.

If someone wants to starve their character to death then they should go out of town or stay active enough to drop the food that they're given.

Well obviously if they like the place and give a positive first impression, then they will probably not sleep for 20 days without telling you so. If they tell you that they are going to sleep for a while and need food, but when they awake they will be active, then obviously it is wise to feed them.

I was more reffering to the newspawn that never says anything but just sleeps.

People don't always want it to be obvious that the char is starving itself, and others can go on the road in a vehicle and feed it anyway if they're so determined.

Mine are usually the long sleepers. When a char of mine is active, usually it will take care of another char (if it is a close friend or something) indefinitely until it has a heart attack.

The answer depends entirely on your charrie.

IRL you may, at any time, be called upon to care for someone unable to care for themselves, possibly indefinitely. No one wakes up in the morning and hopes that it will happen to them, but if hopes and dreams were shots and beer we'd all be naked and baying at the moon in the middle of the street at dawn on a rainy Tuesday in October.

Or however that saying goes.

Some people shirk the responsibility of caring for the incapacitated by ignoring them, foisting the job off on others (a relative or paid caregiver), or smothering them in their sleep. Others take up the task cheerfully and would never complain nor even think to mention it. Still others sacrifice their own lives to shoulder the burden, but take every opportunity to remind others of their selflessness and sigh and moan and kvetch and what have you.

All of which are opportunities for good RP, and potentially for learning from good RP -- that is to say, exploring different ways of handling the situation and getting a taste (however ephemeral) of what each way might hold in the way of emotions/rewards/penalties/consequences/necessitities should you ever have to face such a situation yourself.

So: is your charrie full of grace? well-meaning but short on patience? hold special feelings for/harbor burning grudges against the slumberer? self- or other-centered? enjoy taking advantage of those unable to defend themselves? mother teresa in cotton pants and a coconut bra? someone who believes in demons that steal souls?

Therein lies the only answer to your question, no?

Personally, i wouldn't bother feeding them at all.
If they want their char to live then they'll make sure that they have enough food, or at least ask for it.

Sometimes unforeseen things happen in life that prevent someone from having the time to log in and ask for their chars to be fed. ISP troubles, unexpected hospital visits, etc.

I have a couple chars who feel responsible enough for others in their town to attempt keeping them fed. Sometimes I forget. Other chars are in places where things are a bit more harsh and they figure if someone isn't bothering to ask or work to get food, then they must not want it. It's frustrating when you have a char who wants to care for others, but the food supply isn't readily available to justify feeding sleepers.

Anyway, 2 RL years is a long time... It's obvious the player is still logging in to the account or it would have idled out, right? I've had chars that I just couldn't seem to wake up at some point (have one now in fact), but I think the longest stretch for any char was a month.

I've had one sleep over a real life year... Woke up some (maybe two or three days at a time), but mostly stayed asleep and others feeding it kept it alive (in a harsh environment with little food). It was impossible to starve off. I never was able to wake it up for good.

Well.. interesting variety of answers and reasonings... proposed situations.. Thanks for your responses... :)

I would never change how my charri would handle the situation, no matter what I think.. as I RP them from their point.. not mine... I have one that would starve herself to feed him... One that might/would kill, if it came to charri vs charri... one who starved herself... for no reason except I forgot to feed her :S..... I played her... just ..forgot..

Anyways... just thought it an interesting topic..:) Thanks... and please.. continue..
