Well... Sjoftich didn't end up any easier to read in that version. I've never really had a clear sound in my head, but when I try it comes out "soft itch" or "Soft tick"... I imagine it makes more sense to say Syoft as someone above suggested.

As a Dutch person it is strange to see the trouble English people have with the Cantrian "j". It would have never occured to me to pronounce them silently.

It makes sense of course. That letter rarely occurs at all in English, much less in those combinations.

The "j" surrounded by vowels is just fine. It's with consonants that it's strange in English, but for years I've been used to thinking of Sjoftich as just the way it's spelled, with the sj. But then again, it's all in my head anyway; I feel weird saying it out loud now.

PS Spanish is worse with consonants together. "Sjoftich" in a Spanish accent is silly. "es-hof-teech"

Yep, in spanish some of the Cantrian names sounds so funny.

I didn't think Sjoftich would be that hard

I always pronounce it as Shoftitch Like in shovel

The J's in Blojt and Klojt are mostly just y's for my pronounciation, I think...

Bloyt, it gets that Oy! sound

X's for me are like "ks", just like in Dutch, so it's like Kseeree-ah


Also, wow, phonetical writing in a non-native language is haaard

Now that I think about it I completely leave out the "j" in Klojt and Blojt, etc., and I think I always have. The "j" just makes no sense at all for me in English.

My tongue doesn't allow me to pronounce "Sjoftich" like it would sound in spanish

About Klojt and Blojt, the "j" in spanish it's almost impossible for an english speaker (unless you are scottish; then, according with the wikipedia is like the ch in the word "loch"). Like "ham" but sooo much stronger.

I don't know why, but my mind tends to ignore the j in Blojt and Klojt... I think I use some applied dislexia there and I read Bolt and Kolt...

I tend to say Kloyt, because saying the j as in idjit is a bit difficult.

I just say "Kuh-lodgt" for Klojt, because I pronounce things like they're spelled..... '^_^ Same with Blojt.
And then Cantr is "Canter", like a horse's gallop. Because why not?
