Some of mine are literary in nature; i've had several based on Tolkien.
Some are just bad puns, some are names that I thought were cool, usually incorporating either Elvish or Latin.
I wouldn't name any after any current celebrities...
Gregory Peck possibly, but he's dead.

I usually name my characters after myself, in various ways...or name em after family, or bad puns...

I think there are too many bad pun names out there.

A few of my characters are modifications of real life people and the like, such as Luca Turilli and Matt Vargus (guitarists

) or are mixtures of random things (John Locke and my sister's screen name) or are just out of my head (random Maqari-sounding names)

I absolutely hate celebrity names in Cantr.
Mine didn't used to be original. And then they started getting so. Like...Shani Julan. Or another one which I don't feel like mentioning.

I sometimes name my characters after famous characters from stories that I love; ie. Thomas Covenant, Zak DoUrden.
Most of my characters though are names that I made up; ie. Sester Gartaf, Easle Quathak, Graiwe Johnsmith, etc....
I used my own name; ie. Richard Lenseth; and the name of my ancestor; ie. Thomas Francis Meagher.
Two names that I thought I was making up was James Whitmore and John Haskell. I know that there is real person named James Whitmore but I can't remember what he is famous for. I think it was politics. I always thought Whitmore was cool and I have heard several times as it was a brand of rifle during the American Civil War. Then I just picked a first name that I liked. And John Haskell was a Civil War artillery officer for the Confederacy. Actually, I thought I made up Haskell as a name and didn't know it actually existed (very wierd) and then just placed John in front of the name. Well apparently that is very wierd and if you know these two characters and how very similiar they are

you will even think it is wierder that I named them after already existing people that i didn't knew existed until after I thought I made up the name.

I make up all my character names. I've only had 7 characters, but I've had to make up lots and lots of character names. (let's see if anyone can figure that one out

)

I miss Jeremiah Thistlethwaite ... he was a nice major of Quillanoi to play, trying to be a bit of a dictator while everybody thinks he's a democrat

...funny, my grandfather's first name is Haskell, the name is pretty rare, I've only ran into it twice IRL, both times as a first name.
