Why we can't build a Smelting Furnance and Anvil on ship cabin?

smelting furnace... would burn through the -wooden- ship.
anvil... well, IRL you need a furnace to heat up the metal to hit it with a hammer and bend it. and a fire on a ship... isn't good.

They used to be buildable before, at least the primitive smelting furnace. Far too much advantage to the pirates.

And what about a large rope machine?

There was a time when all this sort of thing was possible, I've even seen a fire pit on ta bike, but since they were all restricted, I can't see a return to it. Otherwise the advantage, in coastal towns, of living on a boat rather than building a house would be far too great.

But, you can build on a hold:
- Cotton gin
- Twinner
- Spindle
- Loom
- Curing tub
- Rope machine
Why not a large rope machine?
Anyways, this won't be changed, I guess.

In the past every Galeon or Frigate for explorations have a anvil on board and special Smelting Furnance. For example is Columbus's ship "Santa Maria". In big ships crew be many craftsmen.

And those ships were made of wood. So ha! Pie, wooden ships -can- have fires on them. Without sinking. Take your silly logic and dispose of it posthaste.

Why only cloth-making machines?

The main reason why machines on ships are limited is game balance - whilst logic and real life do guide many decisions about whats possible , the wider picture has to be taken into account.

Yay!

I love balance over realism.

If not, half the population would be living in floating towns (unless there was a limit on the amount of docked ships)
Reindeer, there are more possible machines, mainly for cooking.

And why should you prevent people from living in floating towns? What's the game imbalance in that?

Actually floating towns would be cool. Another thing that would be cool is tying docked ships into the main ship with ropes so that they couldn't be undocked before the knots are opened. That way it would take at least an hour (preferably more) to deattach a boat and people would be less likely to steal them, so you could keep them unlocked.
