What's with the Graphics?

Postby Lone Wolf » Tue Jan 13, 2004 9:01 am

I have noticed that some notes in certain towns, have graphics in them. How do you get this to work? Where do you find them? and what commands do you use :?:

In the notes, of course, after you contact the players department about uploading the graphics to the Cantr server, you use the HTML image tags.

If you would like your image uploaded so that you can use it in notes, send it as a JPG, GIF, or PNG attatchment to programming@cantr.net, and they will respond with the image address, usually within a day.

Yes you can. You can use HTML in notes, so you can also put graphics in them. Not everybody has some webspace to host the image, so sending them programmming is a lot easier.

Nice service BTW. 2 thumbs up for the programming dept ppl.

No, you are NOT supposed to use graphics from third party hosts. We want to host all graphics on our own server.

This because we want to avoid that someday someone picks up some 'historical note' and all graphics have disappeared because the player who wrote the note quit and removed it from his/her server. So, really all graphics must be on our server.

That is ofcourse a very good reason to send them. I was going to write that as a drawback of 3rd party servers, but forgot to. Not that it matters... :s
In other forums I see that alot, pic's posted a while ago have gone. But then, you are a bit obsessed with "historical" notes aren't you Jos? I guess that's why you don't agree with a possibility to have them deleted?

K. Count me in then. It's alot of extra work for some char's. They have so many notes that they need a lot of envelopes in different categories to put the notes in, and after a while these envelopes need to put in other envelopes.

But it is fun already to have a look in the thrashenvelopes in the various cities. finding a note from 300 turns ago can be quite interesting. In the future it'll be even more so.

But aren't all those notes a real pain concerning the size of the database?

This is the best solution for historical notes, I think. These kind of archives have been established in more cities. Look in the Library in Quillanoi, or in the Town Archives in Olipifirovash West too, or wherever, and nobody will complain about all these old notes anymore. It's just great... (Okay, I must admit, I am historian)

There is nothing in the library in Quillanoi anymore. Easle took his notes when he left. I'm actually not sure but I believe Samantha Davis is in charge of the library since Easle couldn't afford to pay taxes for the library and refused to use his power to either make sure he didn't get the library without taxes or get put there because of favortism even though much of the town offered to pay the taxes him and the rest of the government offered the library without tax. Easle didn't think it would be fair for other people.
