Meeting yourself :o

I recently had a neat encounter...one of my characters had to travel through a town where another of my characters lives, and in the passing the two characters met...very weird! I tried to keep the event as low key as I culd although once when enganged in conversation with another character in the town, The first character answered a question for the second character, one that only the second character could have know about...it was quite awkward...after that the first character went inside, for the rest of the second character's visit to that town...Has any one else had an experience like that? :?

:D Welcome to the second most embarrassing thing that can happen in Cantr. Number one is when you talk out loud instead of whispering during an "intimate" conversation with a loved one.

Many a cheater has been caught by accidently having the wrong char talk in the same town...including me when I first started playing. I'm not saying you were doing something wrong, just that sometimes people do.

I wasn't really cheating by doing anything bad, either. I just had given all my first few chars the same last name and, when I realized this was a bad idea, I had two of them pretend to be married and travel around together. I didn't know this was a no-no, but I found out after slipping up and being contacted by PD. I was actually relieved to split them up because it wasn't fun like I thought it would be.

My characters usually tend to cause each other trouble when they meet because I play so many conflicting personalities. Somehow no matter who the pair up is, at least one of them gets annoyed. Maybe I'm just generally annoying. I kinda like rp'ing with myself even if some people wouldn't like that happening. I won't lead my characters into meeting each other on purpose, but if they happen to then it's rarely a low profile encounter.

I don't remember ever speaking with the wrong character, I'm usually very careful about that. The closest thing to doing something like that was me mistakenly thinking I was playing my forest character while it was in fact my illiterate character - the locations were pretty close so some of the notes were the same. There was a story that my forest character had more information on, so I picked it up and edited it, only to realize that it was a wrong character - not only was he totally unrelated to the events described on the note, but he was also illiterate so he couldn't have read it nor written additional info on it. I don't remember if I'd dropped it before noticing my error but at least no one had time to see it. Then I quickly edited it back to it's original form and dropped it (again).

Oh I think I may have said an English line on my Swedish character once, but that was because the character switched in the middle (I had most likely used the browser back button). Anyway, it wasn't identifiable.

I remember once when Chauncey said (in public) a line that belonged to Silas, and I think he was talking to Pete about Jaina behind her back. (Busted!) Maybe I shouldn't be talking about other people's characters but that was funny. Not so funny for the player but funny for me. Since I may have been the only one around to know both of the characters and recognize the context.

I haven't done the first embarrassing thing (but others did while speaking to or doing something else with me and I was embarrassed for them). That one is so hard to get out of, but some of the time I would say something to cover.

As for the second, I did it once when I was young in the game. It was embarrassing enough for me to never do it again. Oh and I did the thing Seko did, used the back button and didn't realize I was still on the other character and not the one I wanted to click on. Not as embarrassing as the other two though.

Welcome to the club mate. :D

I had that sort of thing happen with two of my characters under conditions which were very difficult to avoid. When Maxen Haldain (spawned Wintercloud) visited Seatown Forest, he had little option but to trade with Goram Yoful for tools, MWS having the monopoly, but because orders were so full up, he volunteered to work on his own project. Goram promptly ordered Eleanor DeFoix to help him. As Eleanor, I could hardly refuse! So I briefly had two characters working on the same project.

Much the same thing happened when Goram pretty much ordered Eleanor to Drojf, where she became effectively the branch manager of MWS. And Drojf was of course Maxen's home too. Very difficult. Anyhow, both those characters are dead now. Indeed, I have none left in the Drojf/Krif region at all and my more recent charries seldom visit the same towns.

And yes, Maxen eventually said something to Goram that Eleanor was meant to say! But it happened for the first time many cantr years later.

I had about 5 characters spawn in Naron or within one space in a two week period back in the day. I just had the quieter ones avoid speaking.

My two oldest characters have lived their lives in Blojt, and in two years of playing, I've only ever managed to do it once (I got impatient and used the back button to go to the character list). It's excruitiatingly embarrasing...

You really have to concentrate to avoid it. I think I've managed it, but I did have one char welcome a stranger to the wrong town and gave the wrong name for himself.

Another Hoosier on the forums! :D (Not that I am claiming it now, but so long as I am living amongst them, I have assimilated somewhat. ;) )

I used to have some fun with Chauncey and Kabong in the same town. It was most embarrassing when Kabong would occassionally let out a soft chuckle and then give a very articulate reply to some question somebody had asked of Chauncey.

Kabong says: "*grins* Kabong tomatoes wood!!!"

Kabong says: "*chuckles* My my my, I must say his vocabulary certainly has expanded exponentially. He should be quite proud of himself."

Been there... Done that... Now my strategy is to go inside and hide when any of my other characters come through.

:? I find you can't make the mistake when they are not in the same room.

Might work, but it didn't for me...
My character thought he was the other and went into the building....., he was lucky not getting locked up for running into the building..

Okay.... here's another one. Usually it doesn't create a huge scene of public embarassment, mostly just that overall personal sense of "duh".

Has your character ever whispered some very profound or earth-shattering statement to another and then spent hours and maybe even days feeling perplexed and angry that no reaction or response followed .... only to finally realize that they had actually accidently whispered to themselves? :P

I've done that!

My worst mistake, which actually had a large impact on the game, was running inside to tell someone what I thought of someone else, only to find I'd been working on a project, so had only knocked on the door, not gone through it, so the person I was badmouthing heard me! Almost started a war. :P

Duncan and Balyard met several times and generally didn't get along. Duncan didn't trust Balyard's motives towards his wife, and they always wound up bickering.

Anyway, I did whisper to myself once, but I actually lost Sabrina Seadragon by saying something out loud that was meant to be whispered.

It happened to me back when Firecam was pairing up with the imperial republic (or what ever it's called) soldiers to fight the blackrocks. I had a firecam character and a Karnon character. My firecam character answered a question directed at the people of Karnon, luckily it was a very general question and there was enough confusion going on for people to miss it.
