water skin

With a water skin you can collect 25 grams of water per day. This makes a well pretty much useless. A well costs a great deal more (500 grams of medium rope, 1000 grams of stone and 300 grams of wood instead of 100 grams of hide and 50 grams of sinew) and you need to have a bucket to be able to collect water with a well.

A water skin does even work inside.

Is this all intended to be this way?

Yes it is intended

There are more efficient ways of collecting water that the water skin and whilst you can set up the project inside you won't be successful . There's nothing stopping you for searching for water anywhere- but you'll only find it outside on land

I think the well is much better, 400 water per day's not to be sniffed at. There's something not right with the manufacture water skin project, i'm making one without a needle. I suppose the toolrequirements in the wiki (recent changes: machines; it says need knife, needle) are not the same or not there. The program didn't mention any toolrequirement when i set it up.
What does the machine do? Scoop water from the ground or trap water that falls from the sky? (he's thinking rain? he must be rambling..)

The wiki says a well only produces 100 grams of water a day.

Unless you need vast amounts of water the investment in a well will never ever repay itself.

I know, it's a recent change and these should be updated.

The database entriy for manufacturing water skins was misspecified - They do require a hammer and a needle now - This has been fixed for all
exsiting projects

The exact mechanics are unknown to me :) ... Maybe RD can explain how they work ? - I wouldn't worry too much as they do work

Sorry, mistake from the top of my head. It requires a needle and knife.

You see, it's a waterskin... the water's already in there, it's just getting it out takes some work.  (and in case the emotes weren't enough of a clue, that was sarcasm, the exact mechanics behind it is sortof left up to the characters to understand)

If we could wring it it should work inside, or on a ship :) well i was mainly wondering why we had to be outside on land! Cos this would make a great project for idle sailors.

Maybe it's fresh water.

Every location has a natural spring. You just need a device to collect the water in. You dip the water skin in the pool and off you go. You have to dig a well to use your bucket, because natural Cantrian springs do not form very big pools, and thus need to be dug out a bit in order to fit the bucket in.

If water is an available resource in every location, it should be visible on the location screen. Even if it has to be collected with a tool (like timber).

I think it's stupid that deserts have the same availability of water as plains and forests.

That's a good point. I agree.

Sorry I probably missed it. What's water used for?

Is 500 grams of medium rope, 1000 grams of stone, 300 grams of wood and 5 days of shovelling sufficient? Does not sound like a bit to me. Sounds like water is only available deep underground and water can only be collected with a water skin when a well has been build at that location. Another way to draw water from underground is by building a water pump.

I think this water skin is unbalancing and should be changed. Or water should be available at every location or most locations for everyone to gather as a resource, or it should only be available after you have dug a well or build a water pump.

Real wells can produce several kilos of WATER a day. Just give it a higher deterioration rate due to vaporisation, that should balance it out.
