I had a character spawn in Lad. He followed the rules and enlisted in the guard. I am very acive and that was noticed. Now I hold a decent position within the Empire. I rose rather quickly. Some die, some become boring citizens, and some thrive. Its the noncomformists with closed minds that never make it out alive.

Without interesting places with conflict and drama, we would all be chopping wood and farming carrots until we got bored and quit the game.

Yeah, that makes sense. I'm not saying everything I have without ever being in Lad--I have a character there now. He just hasn't seen the light of day in 3 years. LOL And it's not because he's a criminal--he's in the Guard--he just bakes. All day. All night. Nothing else. LOL So I have no clue what's going on outside, and I probably don't want to. LOL

Out of interest, how much land does the Alexian Empire hold?

And, for all it's shortcomings, Lad does give us and endless topic of conversation, and I agree that if it was all councils it would be very boring.

I've never had a char in Lad, or near, unless, Naron, is that near? I beleive that it is part of the so called "Lad Empire"
What part of the world is the "Alexian Empire"?

Lad Empire is the old name for the Alexian Empire

And yes, Naron is quite close to Lad and a part of the A. Empire. But ppl there are a lot more relaxed.
And the land they hold is quite extensive. I had a char travelling through the Lad Empire. A guard from Naron actually told me what route to take, knowing I wasn't willing to pay for a visa and just trying to sneak through. Nice ppl Naronians. :D

For me, any locations where all characters seem to agree that the nicest thing to do is to farm and be happy, are the worst places :) ... So I like Lad. with its really cruel regime, and I like Quillanoi with its active democracy, and some other places - most cities I have no characters - but I don't like the Sring-Sri island for what I've seen so far and Karnon Forest was so much talking that it was impossible to stay there :) ...

Oh, and all Dutch locations are horrible :D ... People talk and talk and talk, and nothing gets done :) ...

Yep, you are one, and I'm sure the others know who they are, just as I'm sure that everyone would be extremly surprised to find out who's char was emperor for sometime before Hawthorne made his move. But not all of the chars I'm thinking of are in the capital, and there would be more if a few important chars had gotten killed in Xiria forest.

I've also read over some of the other posts, and I just want to point out that how things are done in Lad concerning all the deaths are the way they've always been done. Actually they are a little relaxed now, when the first char I had there was killed he didn't even know why, hell he even thought people liked him, and then he got beat to death, at least now when someone gets wacked they normally know why. As far as "accidentel" deaths go I can only remember 4 or 5 happening, everyone else was killed for a reason whether it was because they spoke a bit to loudly, just because it was decided they weren't needed or one of the other various reasons Lad has had for doing away with someone.

I also want to point out that there has NEVER been any OOC discussions between the players in Lad as to what should happen in the Empire. Also, so many chars there are ran by experianced players because it takes an experianced player to keep a char alive long enough to be anything in Lad.

Call me old-fashioned but I don't actually dislike any location I've ever had a character go to. I've had all of my characters dislike people but not the actual place, yet if I were to mention a place that I personnaly wasn't to fond of it would be Pok! That place drives me absolutely barmy because theres so much talking about drivel!

Still, I don't really hate the place or anything because I'm not that attached to the locations but now and then I do get all loyal to various places and certain people for no reason.

Simple fact is; Lad IMO is the most successfull government in cantr history

And the laws have gotten a lot looser, ever since the population got spread out so thin.
