The setting in Cantr

I'm curious about how you all want Cantr to evolve.
Personally, I think the best way would be to put the energy into making a very stable world that doesn't evolve much technologically (keeping it in a medieval setting), but I have heard others that are practically salivating in their wait for Cantr reaching a more modern era

I agree, I like it the way it is now. I'm not to keen on seeing people running around on spaceships and killing people with lazor guns!

It seems I agree with you two. I think children should come before modern times. Also, more modern weapons will mean characters die quicker, and I would prefer to have time to develop characters, rather than see someone shoot them dead on a pointless rampage. (if sabres do 40 damage against unarmed people, how much would guns do?)

I think the setting of the game would depend on the societies and what technological level they get themselves at. If some people happen to be running around with laser guns on spaceships or with bone clubs on canoes, I'm quite fine with that. The societies have created that.

I don't believe Cantr is in a Midieval period, at least not all of it: It's not about the technology either. It's about the political systems and societal relationships. Along with the Ancient Greek or modern ethos regarding the nature of man's place in the universe.

Well, with those set of options, then "they should concentrate on making non-modern improvements like weather, children etc." I think it was pretty clear what I voted for.
I would definately see more development of the missing elements of the game environment, over technological progression, which isn't flawless as it is, and needs development. To aim for totally modern levels of technology would be to overstretch our reach, and then leave massive holes in the development, which I don't think is good. I say work with what we've already got, and improve it.

I voted for the very slow progression, and I think that we should do away with some of the modern things for now and reinstate them later.
As to when to reinstate Im not sure I guess it depends on the game and how fast we evolve with midevil things. You could say that cars should not be around for another 200 years wich would be about 10 real life years (give or take a few).
There does seem to be an uneven mix of old with the new though and I think it would be better to have it one way or the other.

Don't forget that when Cantr will be slowly but steadily evolving into a more modern age, there will be new things to discover, new vehicles, tools weapons, etcetera. So there will always be new things to discover, hich should appeal especially to the senior players who already have that warbow, limousine, etc. Also, to saty in power governments must continously be a step ahead of it's citizens. It's a matter of time until crossbows will be commonplace. Then the need for even more powerfull weapons will be great.
Cantr is a dynamic game in all aspects, lets not abandon that.
I do agree that the progress needs to be very slow but given the pace of the game, that should'nt be a problem.

If modern items keep being added, soon we will run out. I think that researching, children, and skills shoudl be added before the sociey develops any more technologically. Think about it, we are developping obviously faster than real society, and we already have cars.... Jos is going to run out of ideas tryiing to think of things to add that peopple would use in say the year 3000.

Like i said. Really slow advance.
And new features are being implemented now and they will never stop to do so. That's a fact, even when progress is involved so I don't worry about new features.

This is an iffy topic for myself.
On one hand, I never want it to evolve into spaceships and telephones and running water etc.
On the other hand...I want some of the things from the modern times. Like...some clothes wouldn't be worn in certain time periods, but I'd like em there. And..I don't think guns or canons would be too bad. (As long as they didn't do more dammage than a sabre..but Im certain if they were implemented people would WANT them to do more dammage, so i guess I am against those too)
But if it evolves too much it will not be a fun game for newcomers I don't think.
Im stuck between it being a midevil period, and like frontier life. lol
Don't feel a need for helicopters and airplanes. But I also don't think it would be fair to take out cars. They are already there...and I don't think they are that big of a deal. Those are harder than Ape crap to get anyways. (Becoming more easier as time goes on) But..why take them out? Perhaps they could put a stop to cars being built. Like...let the ones on the list to be built stay on the projects list. But take the icno out so no more than there already is can be built. But to take them completely out of game, is just kinda stupid. People will be driving down the road and suddenly, WHAM theres no car? lol No thanks.
If they put a stop to cars being able to be built I think it would be fine for a w hile. That would give us time to learn how to corral animals, and ride around in horse drawn buggies.

Limos and bone needles? No way man.
I like the current medieval setting and think they should concentrate on making non-modern improvements like weather, children etc. instead of the monumental work it would take to have an progressing society that is interesting.

I don't mind at all the sort of conglomeration of items from different times that exists at the moment. The most important thing when adding new items and changing gameplay should be game balance, not matching the setting. I mean really the names don't matter that much. You could retitle the car "ihorse drawn buggy" and retitle the resources so it made sense and everything would be exactly the same. What matters is how the items and the gameplay work together to create a system that encourages people to interact, organize, fight, trade, etc in interesting ways.

There of course will always be a gap like bone needles and limos. Some towns can build cars, while some places are stuck in the stone age.
