Cantr II Discussion Forum

I have noticed that its very hard to find someone who truly enjoys Cantr, or at least for the right reasons. I also find that those of us who have played Cantr year after Cantr year, many of us have similar interests. Is that a coincidence, or is it that only a certain group of people can fall into this game? The whole idea of Cantr is not really new to me. I thought of something similar to it quite a while ago, and was searching the net for the past few years trying to find a game that was similar to what I had thought of. This is almost identical to the game I wanted to play. But back to the point, the people who play this game. We all like playing online games, I assume, and most of us have at least a minimal interest in history, economics, and political sciences. I bet all of us have played all the standard RPG's, as well. And I bet its rare to find a cantr player with an IQ under 100... (i just tested mine... 126). And for some reason, not to be sexist, but of all the MALE players I have talked to, I am pretty sure all of them know the basics of at least one programming language. Is all of this a coincidence, or is Cantr tailor made for a certain personality type, that many of us players fit into? I mean, Jos is a good example of what I would like to do. I am pretty much split between social sciences and computer sciences. Its just too uncanny. Anyone else notice this?

Well, the reason I'm playing cantr, was cuz my bro was always playing muds, so I wanted one to play...and then I got hooked....I'm not sure about my IQ, and I don't know any programming languages...but I do like computers...and the strategy, and manupulating involved in cantr...

Okay, aside from the programming bit (I am far too lazy) That all applies to me. I am currently studying history, economics, politics (and maths), so maybe I really do fall into that category. Oh, and while this may sound bigheaded, my average IQ from around 5 different test is 139. And I'm male. Maybe there is just something that appeals about Cantr to a certain type of person?

Maybe i'm an exception to the rule, I don't have much interest in economics, only when it applys to work i'm doing. I like to hear about my Irish history, but i'm not particularly fussed. And I think being brought up in Northern Ireland politics is a given.

I like my RPGs, and I'v got the IQ down. But i'm can't read any computer language, I don't even know what you really mean when you say that.

My interests usually fall under going out and sport, stuff like that. I am probably the steriotyicpal guy who a lot of people dislike because it looks like they'v everything easy, and I probably do but im hardly going to complain! But the idea of Cantr just appeals to me, thats why I like it so much.

But anyway, back the thread, I don't really think that it just applys to a certain personality type.

Interesting points made there, I got the interest for different types of RP and I'm interested in a couple of other RP games either free-form or on a MUD-type basis, I'm always searching for realism in my RPGs and never really finding it until around a year ago when I got in to Desolation and Nationstates both of which had there realism but also great freedom.
It's the main reason I find CantrII so appealing, everything that can be done in CantrII can really only be done in a fantasy RP (I don't meant fantasy as in the genre but rather in that you don't actually see the results of what you RP) being able to do nearly anything is great but best of all there is no sense of having to wait before trying something big, you just go for it because you don't often know what the person behind a character is like so you just have to rely on what the character is like.

I've had my rant of the day and there shoudl probably some inspiring music in the background to complete the atmosphere but I'm on a budget.

Another interesting point.... have we all played MUDs before? I know I have.

Well, perhaps there are two sub-categories. Some people that play this game enjoy the political science aspect of it, and THOSE peoople tend to know the computer langauges (as in knowing how to program in a certain language such as Visual Basic, C++, or JavaScript, to you who asked). The other type, which I have noticed is predominantly female, but not entirely, are the ones who play solely for the role playing aspect. The first type tend to want to lead organisations, and things like that, while the second type likes to join a group, and work their way up, or even just sit around and make friends.

I'm just socially distorted and have no real friends since they all betray me and try to steal my girlfriend for some stupid reason so I kill them and I play cantr while i hide from the police. Okay maybe I exaggerated on that last part.

I like muds, but cantr is much superior. I tried to learn c++ but i kinda gave up . I don't know my IQ...that's all I've got to say.

Heh. I'm more or less the same type of person described in the first post except for the fact that I'm a girl. Heh. I program on some other RPGs. Much good fun indeed.

oh yeah, and IRL, my social life away from my comp is nonexistant. ;P

I have to say that I have been playing Cantr on and off for sometime (I"ve had two or was it three account? But at various times cancelled them... one time I went on a vacation and figured all my characters would die of starvation and pkers so i just cancelled the account)

I have to say that I definitely set out to look for a game just like Cantr. I did not just stumble upon it. A game that I played before Cantr though was UrMud. In UrMud you played as a Mesopotamian Cro-Magnon from Ur... it didn't have a large population and the creator stopped the project unfortunately. The website is still up though. I can't remember if I found Cantr simultaneously or not.

I fit all of the traits that you listed, I also am an Architecture Major, which is a little different than what you listed. (I have studied all those other things as well though)

Hope you didnt view my comments as sexist, I just never spoke to a female player with those traits. Doesnt mean they dont exist, of course

Strangely enough, my hypothesis is more correct than I had anticipated. Hows that for psychology?

I am female, and know more than one programming language-my major is all to do with computers and technology, it's in the busn school: Management Information Systems.

I've never played a MUD(I am honestly not sure what they are, though I have heard of them). I enjoy history and political science, but as for econ-I only liked the econ class I had in HS and one I had in college, not the other two.

I am finding it harder and harder to play cantr, however, mostly because my access to the computer for pleasure and not work/school is growing less and less as my senior year rolls on.

I don't play many RPGs per se. I play Toadwater. hehe. And I'm part of the Federation SIM Fleet (www.sb254.com). I'm the Fleet XO of Alpha Fleet. Fun fun fun! Other than that, I've rped a bit with friends on-line but never done any of the in-person stuff. I was looking for an online game and stumbled upon this one. Got a few characters in interesting places right off the bat and there you are.
