Adding Sails to boats

Postby watermelonnose » Fri Dec 19, 2003 12:09 am

Since we have hemp and cotton we should be required to have at least one sail for our boats. Once an old boat gets into port it will need to be outfitted with sail before sailing again.

We should have the possibility of adding more than one sail, up to a point for each type of boat, increasing sailing speed.

As weather comes into the picture we'll have to take sail in to keep our masts from snapping. (carry some extra wood and hemp to make repairs)

Docking could be designed so you would have to reduce sail to avoid damage to the boat when coming into port.

Adding an element of seamanship into the handling of boats would be a plus.

Sure, as if the collecting of wood and building the boat doesnt take long enough. And you could say thesame about other vehicle, tyre changes, engine recalibration etc.

Adding an element of seamanship into the handling of boats would be a plus

Do I get a bonus? :D

Maybe instead of making the process that much more tedious, and longer, and add on to all those other things you need in Cantr, it should be optional to the Cantr Char, to add a sail to make the vessel go faster...maybe add a multiple of, for every sail you have, so as to make more usage of the Percentile system.

Well, to my knowledge longboats were already equipped with a sail. The other boats too I believe, but most of them are non existing ship types. There's a rowing boat in the game too, which implies that the bother boats are equipped with sails.

If you want to compare it to real life where ships can be fitted with additional sails, well, the environment is a lot different, I'd say we keep it as is.

I really don't it would be practical for people to have time related issues concerning sails, people aren't on all the time sure having weather affect the speed at which you travel is good but anything which requires actions on the part of players to avoid damage and such is going to result in lots of broken ships.

Do boats like a sloop or galleon need a sail before they will move now or does the sail just makes it faster or what, how does this work??

The sail just makes the boat faster.
