While I am all for wars in Cantr, there are several wars either ongoing or on the verge of starting between several of the language groups that share islands.
The question I ask is, how far to allow it? Eventually, one side will win one of these wars. Is it permissable for a whole language group to be exterminated?

Yes, they had it coming.
(and they smell)

Yes!
Of course.
Anyway, to get the cynicism out of the way first - do you really think that combat is implemented well-enough for a language group to be exterminated? I doubt it...
Secondly, of course we should allow it - it makes for great RP history.
If need be, the 'exterminated' language groups can have an artificial spwn-point change to another island...?

And, by the way, what do you want to do against it. A godly intervention of sorts?

Certainly so - but as you say , I doubt that will come to play - not so much because of the current combat system but the spawning system - As a particular language population falls in one area - it increases the chance of spawning in other areas where members of that language survive.

I say bring it on. To interrupt it would be a CRB by exerting OOC influence. And as Chris says, as long as there are players willing to spawn characters in a given language, the "race" isn't going to die off.

Although I totally agree with all these responses - wars are part of Cantr - the problem of course lies exactly here

... We just lost a contingent of Turkish players tired of the Swedes in their region, and I fear a similar thing might happen with the Portuguese.
I don't see any way to stop this without doing damage to the fundamental character of Cantr, though. Plus, wars generally are among the coolest thing to roleplay in this game

Ey, that's quite interesting. As far as I know, turkish chars were slaughtering the Swedes, just for avoiding "listen" their language. And you say that turkish finally gave up and left the game just 'cause they can't obliterate the Swedes?

The Swedes organized and struck back.

Really? That's awesome.
So these Turks can dish it out but they can't take it? I know it sucks to lose players, but honestly, do you want a bunch of that type around?

Don't generalise,The ones who left were not necessarily the same as the ones who'd originally attacked swedish speaking chars

Hrmm... This makes me wonder... I'm starting a poll on the matter... I know, polls aren't a good idea, but I can't help it, I'm interested.
