Well okay maybe they're not
that important, practically speaking, but my chef is ecstatic.
Time to throw a big party with delicious catering, methinks.
Can anybody tell me how much they hold? there's nothing in the wiki.

The wiki CantrBot update indicates the plates have the following details
CantrBot wrote:wooden plate
Build requirements : raws:wood>300;days:3;tools:hammer, knife
Special rules : stores:300-800
Visible : yes
Decay rate turns : 25
Decay rate usage : 0
Repair rate per day : 1000
Weight : 300g
The Special Rules line indicates you can hold 800g on a wooden plate

Are they actually implemented yet?
And why no glass lens?

Ooh, telescopes! I didn't even notice those...that'll be great for sailors and coastal towns if it works the way I'm hoping it will.
I'm going to have to keep that link bookmarked, ususally I just use the search in the wiki.

Strictly speaking telescopes themselves have not been released - just some of the things which are required to make them - and Marian - I have no idea how you think they are going to work ...

... so I can''t really comment on that

No, they are not.
The diamond lense is also broken, in that it doesn't list the ingredient.

The DB changes also don't list what the alcohol is distilled in, so I'm guessing that it can't actually be made yet either.

RD have set this up to use diamond as opposed to diamonds - the same issue applies to the other gem based lens

Actually Chris, only diamonds are in the plural form. The other lenses are correct with sapphire, emerald, and ruby.

Yes.
Along with tin cans, that work much like the wooden plates and apothecary kits. (Back on topic.

What's the point of these again?
Sorry - bit out of the loop as of late.

Other than RP, you could use them to store food items on your person that you don't want to eat. Would come in handy for rationing, for example.

Woah hoho
Double-take...
For storing food, on your person...
Does that mean we have inventory storage near-implementation?

It has been available for a very long time - but only using the Apothecary kit. RD are about/have just introduced a range of other portable storage items
