NO MORE SENSELESS POLLS!!

Just like in real life, I excericse my inalienable human right to abstain. :)

Why is this senseless? I would never play with a character that emoted like this, so I'm trying to see how pervasive it is.

In my opinion you commit an error. I can prove it. Write to me in PM, we will discuss.

:) just noticed... so far, it's either bad, or people don't care... I see no votes in the "way it should be" direction.

I have only seen a handful of characters emoting in past tense. I believe all of he ones I have seen emoting in past tense have been very high quality characters. Having said that, I do not believe that correlation supports causality, a logically fallacy embraced and propagated by most psychological and behavioral research studies.

Being the well rounded and open-minded individual that I am, I can't say that it matters how people emote, just so long as they maintain a visible, physical element to it, don't use it to make my character psychic, and add flavor and colour to their characters in the process.

I think I am trying to say I don't care one way or the other. :)

Although I must say, this is a nice refreshing change of pace from the chronic debates in recent months, though I get the feeling this is still going to be allowed to disrupt the game.

I've had to vote with the don't like it crew because, while I have never experienced past tense emoting, it doesn't seem natural to me.

I guess maybe I should have voted for don't mind, but even that would not really be quite true either. I do mind. Does it mean that I don't play with that person? No, but then that's 'cos my account has timed out again  because of not having enough time to enjoy my game.

Does it mean that I wouldn't play with a character that emoted? Probably not, I'll let you know when (if) I ever find out.

Do I think that we would lose something if the people who do past tense emotem decided to stop playing? Yes - in my view, the game is about interacting. We all have to deal with people IRL who we find difficult, why not in the game?

Just my random thoughts - enjoy

I emoted in the past tense today, as it was actually a very concise way to capture the imagery of my character's reaction in the midst of a flurry of activity that I logged in to find.

I guess for me it depends on how they do it, if as wichita put it, it is in response to a flurry of action to put context to when exactly that activity would have happened had you been on line at that moment, then yes, it's both acceptable and good RPing, I also enjoy seeing it when used to discribe an action that just happened that you would have not been able to predict such as you attack an animal/person, and then emote the grissly details of what you did to that poor shmuck; however, it should never be used in a way that changes the context of how people have responded to events past

EX of good past tense:
:you say:*he swung his axe down on the sheep's head spliting it clean in half down to the shoulders*
:you kill a sheep with a new battle axe

EX of bad past tense:
:You say to guy2: *responded to the slap by telling you* it's okay, I said he could do that.
:guy2 drags guy1 into Prison
:guy1 hits you with a bare fist for 5 dammage
