Why is there a limit on Daily Gameplay?

Why is there a limit on how long you can play in a day??? Today I must have played to long because I get a message now that says:

"ERROR: You have reached the maximum playing time for today. Please come back tomorrow!="

I mean we want to encourage a lot of activity in the Cantr world, so why have a limit to how much someone can play in a day? Is it because of the server bandwith? I mean will the server get overloaded if there are to many people playing all day? Just curious, because I have some important events happening today and I can't even get on and play them. :(

Last of all, when does this timer resest itself? Is it a certain time during the day or what?

You pretty much answered your own question. A time limit was imposed a very very long time ago around the day 400 - 600. not clear on the date really. but the server would in fact get shut down for the month due to exceeding the bandwith limit.

So Jos added on the time limit to be able to balance the bandwith monthly. turned out to be a great thing and a bad thing at the same time. but it keeps the game alive and open for us to play monthly.

Ok well thank you for answering the question. :D

Couldn't they make it where the longer you have been playing Cantr the more time you get each day? Because newbie players never really need as much time as the older players do, and the older players with all the activity revolving around their characters could use more time. Just a suggestion.

What do you all think about that?

Oh, that reason is no longer valid. Bandwidth is no longer a problem. But other issues stay:
- limited time makes players make only most important things in the game; without time limit living in some locations would become as an endless IRC-like chating - we don't want to read tones of worthless blah-blah chats,
- time limit helps to keep the balance between those players, who have whole days free and those, who can play only half an hour a day; without it the first ones would get too big advantage;
- Cantr is quite addictive to some people... time limit is for your own good, believe me ;)

The issue is no longer server load (pardon me if I'm mistaken) but a desire to keep people with no lives outside of Cantr from dominating the game.

Well said....

Life was so much easier for me when reset was just after a reasonable bet time... I ran out of minutes, I went to bed! :D

i hope everyone's heart is in good shape for what i am about to say (knowing this is me saying it) may invoke a series of heartattacks among players, i honestly can say that we have enough time
*watches 25% of cantrian players get picked up by ambulances*
basically for the reasons that if we had more time, how many of us would be glued to the computer like i am now, difference being how many of those people would be neglecting RL needs
at least my heel is broken so i manage to use all my minutes without neglecting anythign (and i mean just about every day)

5 creds = 1 min, Convert now? :P
Oh, and just as a side note... I don't think the credits system likes me... that or it doesn't like Opera...
