I think I've seen most of them and...... they're perfect!!! :D
I was searching for what I needed to use in order to make a fishing pole and what do I find? There's a picture of it!!! And a great one at that!
Cantr is a text based game but somehow these pictures fit just well!
Who had the ideia of using those pics in there?
Was that you, Rusalka?

Yeah i don't think we need pictures either.

Especially when the picture of the item is nothing like my imagination saw it.
Every time something like this gets added, it removes another factor that makes cantr different to everything else.

Ouch! I didn't see this one coming! :(
Well, you can't have everyone happy, right? :?
Unless you make this optional in the player settings, but that's a whole new thread!

Oh, and now I'll tell you why I like the pics!
I am portuguese, I can't understand what most of the tools are and portuguese-english dictionaries suck!
How could I guess what was a fork spanner when you need rubber to make it and I've never seen rubber in such a tool in real life (and I still don't understand that :? )!
I think this is a great help for non-english players at least!
In the portuguese island we have discovered iron only now and I've no clue what tools I should be making cause the tools list is just a big mess that I just can't understand! (Oh, and the portuguese translations there suck too!)
I think it's a pity only some tools have pics yet... :(

Agreed ..These are a useful reference to what the particular object is - They only appear on the construction pages - not in inventories nor any where else in-game . Yes I can understand that some purists may not like any pictures but seriously are they going to effect your game play ?

I like them... Instead of being like, Well I guess that's what that thing is... I can actually see what the 3/4 axe is... not just have some textual description of one. Good job here.
Besides we already had pictures in the location tab... so if you want no pictures, that means no map or terrain pic for you either. If your imagination was wrong about what something is, then it means you also imagine incorrectly what it's used for.

I apologise, but, in my opinion, it is obvious.

I think the pics look great, and it does not take anything away from the gameplay. I can understand that some would like an option to turn that off, but to suggest that it takes away from what you imagined it to be is just pathetic. If you have that shallow of an imagination to where you cant get around that, then maybe this isnt the game for you.

As a side note I can just imagine some of the "shallower" players sitting around and when they see an item on TV or in a movie that is used on Cantr there immediate thought is "Damn it, now my game is wrecked, I could have sworn my stone hammer looked better than that"

I know I'm not a forum person, but I really don't like this.

I'm aware most people do, and some people probably find them useful, but I have a few things against it.

One. It just irks me that cantr is becoming more and more mainstream.

Two. I can't imagine that a bone knife (first example to come to mind) created by one character would be identical to one created by another. The same for all tools, I think it takes away from the role playing potential, not that everyone plays in such detail.. Maybe someone awkward at making a tool wants to play having made a poor one that hardly resembles what it should, does having a picture on what this tool is make them wrong for trying that?

Will this be happening to weapons aswell? I'd like to think most swords, sabres and the like could be considered unique to a region of maker, part of why I dislike the images.

Three. These are decent pictures, I don't dislike the images themselves, I just don't think they belong in cantr. If they had to be there I would rather see a hand-drawn (or something that gives the appearance of being drawn) just to see if it fits in better.

I'm not trying to say someone's right or wrong, not trying to target anyone's opinion. This is just that, my opinion on it.

That is a good way of putting it, but how is it a real problem. It is only on the construction page and you dont have to really even look at it. People can still roleplay that they suck at making things and that they dont come out looking the way they should. I could see the complaints justified if the pics showed up everywhere and they were unavoidable, but thats just me I guess...

You are mistaken. I can defend the position.
