Good idea? Or... not?

I think it might be cool to have a flash series about Cantr. I've started writing a journal of one of my characters (which hopefully I'll be able to sell on Lulu one day), but I thought: Wouldn't it be cool to have a flash series or a flash movie portraying the life of an ordinary Cantrian?
It wouldn't be an action-packed special-effects extravaganza, but you'd be able to see the character develop over time and follow his life.
I think, if this could be done, it could be a good advertisement for Cantr. All the dialogue could be translated into subtitles of up to 15 languages. And there could be a whole collection, 'Cantr Tales', following the lives of multiple characters from different areas of the Cantr-world. It'd be particularly cool to be able to see certain events from different points-of-view.
Downside is, it'd take a lot of work (finding someone who knows Flash, voice acting, translation, etc)
So.. whaddaya think?

That would be great, UdT. I mean, I have none o' those skills, but the finished product would be a sight not to miss.

I've been thinking of this too. Well not a series, but a tutorial for newbies. But I was using the trial version and ran out of days. Now I have the trial installed on my mom's computer, but I haven't felt like doing new stuff for days.

Are you nuts? You're not using Flash and have a limited amount of time?
You know...you could probably cheat Macromedia by making a copy of the flash file. That probably won't dissapear after time's up, just the original.
Ooh, I'm evil...

Um, it's not like the file would vanish, it just becomes unusable. As it does if computer clock is reversed. I've considered reverting the system to a date before the instal, but that would make me lose all the stuff I've installed since, and I would have to install a bunch. And would it affect files too? Since it would be a total bummer to notice all my graphic files vanishing into thin air. A friend of mine has a split hard drive, keeping files on one side and programs on the other - when a trial runs out, he wipes the program side totally and reinstalls what's needed.
And of course we're law abiding people here and wouldn't go around the trials, now would we?

Limewire it? Warez it? Download it for free and crack it, then if you like it, buy it. If you don't like it, they don't deserve your money.
Otherwise I was contemplating modelling an entire continent in 3D, then making some movie out of it.
It really wouldn't be hard. I'd also probably very cheaply put buildings and people and objects in it, for, lets say, day 1600. It'd take a good month, and I'd need access to maps and location details.
Otherwise I was considering making a 3D model of the K-Island, nice and simple, and writing a program so you Cantrians can look around the K-Island in 3D.

Not that I endorse software piracy (Honestly sir, that expensive suite of development applications is totally legit), but it's probably a registery key that locks the trial after so long. If changing the date doesn't affect it, then it probably works like a switch.
I wonder what it would do if you set the clock forward by a couple centuries and then installed it, and reverted the clock after. Whether that would fool it (assuming it locks out a given number of days after the install date.)

The trial has a trigger that makes it expire if it notices the clock has been altered.

a cracked version is usually the best option if you want a longer trial.

I am so torn on the subject of software piracy. I mean, I can't condone it because it really is stealing. If you don't want to pay for it then at least have the honorable decency/chutzpah to look for and support a legit open source alternative. (I know honor an decency is a completely foreign and atithetic concept to modern Western society, but I still have some hope left.)
At the same time, large corporate software seems to be far overpriced when factoring in its quality, but the spirit of capitalism (and competeing against the pirates, or using the hackers as an excuse to justify upping the price in the name of overcoming theoretical shrink from the losses induced by piracy).

Flash movie could be fun, but in order to be true to Cantr it would be so dreadfully dull that nobody would watch it.

Which is why I was going to make an interactive 3D environment of Cantr..

The lack of graphics isn't why it is boring. It is the slow pacing of the game that causes that.
And just to clarify, I like boring.

Make Cantr exciting and you will kill many of the reasons that I like it.

I've always been for halving the time it takes to do everything.

I apologise, but, in my opinion, you are not right. Let's discuss it. Write to me in PM.
