True, Naronians have always been under the boot of the Ladvicians so that could be like the English and the Irish in the real wolrd. But like the Irish, perhaps someday the Naronians will throw off the yoke of the Ladvicians.

And that's where the myth of the Black Wolf of Xiria comes in.

Not "the curse of Naron"...it is the Lad/Naron Forest that is cursed...really it is. People get's crazy there. Attacking each other for no reason and so on. It is a creepy place.

It's not illegal to leave. It's just illegal to leave in any direction, but one and only if your not a citizen.

Back to the Karnon Empire, they won't have much of an advantage even with controling the iron. They lack all of the other resources needed for steel. They'll need to do some heavy trading with the surrounding areas, like Kwor and Kirinn. That should add some balance.

btw, has anyone discoved any areas on the new continent that don't begin with "k"?

And is the Ks pronounced QU, KN, C, or N? Or do you click your tongue and say the rest?

All they need is limestone, and having the only source of iron known to anyone on the island, they can take it at will

the limestone is at least a week away which makes for clumsy trading and an even clumsier invasion especially by such a fledgling government where people are still just establishing themselves.

perhaps, but the other thing to consider is that they don't need steel to be better and more powerful than any other government in the area, and I wasn't aware the nearest source of limestone was a week away. I thought it was a lot lot closer, more like days

I have been finding it very interesting what it happening on the new island. I would say that usually the most powerful place is the place that secures the areas that have the bet ablility to supply steel and iron.

For example; the Empire of Ladvicitvoi (also known as the Alexian Empire), Alenz Hills Mining Company, DoUrden Estates, certain groups in the Brunoi area, Siom, the MacGregor Clan, the Krif Empire, and Seatown Forest to name just a few. This Karnon Empire on the new island already controls a source of iron and even though limestone is far away, which other societies are really looking for steel making resources at this time on the new island. I think the one who controls the flow of steel and iron is the one in control. Sort of like the story Dune where the society that controls the flow of spice control the universe except in this case the society that controls the steel and iron controls te world. :P

yes, that is something I think isn't that great, as there are no alternatives to steel for many tools, i think there ought to be other kinds of tools, a more even balance between steel tools and other kinds.

I quite like the idea of modelling Cantr's technologcal developemnt on the Stone, Bronze, and Iron ages

one thing the Karnon Empire has been pretty good about so far has been controlling the amount of iron that leaks out the borders...gathering laws are strict even for citizens, and getting stricter.

as I know from both angles
