In-Game Religions

Indeed he is. After he sent the Kwor expedition off (Raphael and Black Tighe I believe... I can't really remember), he fell asleep. He awoke a year later to an empty monastery, and the dead body of his own remaining monk.

I think about 2 or 3 people have seen him in the past 8 years or so... Now he just continues what he always did - making things. Despite being blind, his belief in the Father keeps him going. And the 22 years of making things enables him to work with his dodgy vision (he's not quite blind yet)

And he still thinks he is the Archprelate... poor fool. Nobody's told him otherwise. He thinks the Order is dead... or at the very least in the hands of an incompetant.

i always thought it was funny how he was "archprelate lopan" even before he had an organization underneath to support the title. it probably helped the religion spread though since it gave him an image of legitemacy.

He had several other titles before I decided on that one... even when it was just him, he persevered with his titles...

He missed so many chances to have an impact on the Forest. That really frustrates me - one of my big regrets. Too late now though.

Well suffice to say I have more than one character on the K-Island. He passed through Kwor, and saw the notes proclaiming a new Archprelate.

But of course, Lopan doesn't know that...

I think the new Archprelate is alright, but then I never knew what yours was like.

I have to say the Order of the Holy Father has to be the most meaningful religion in Cantr, at least in my experience anyway. Things like 'Klug' and others rarely seem anything more than novelties to there respective towns, Kwor has a bit of character because of it's religion.

Well that's a bit of a scandal then... They're already building a tomb for him in the Cathedral's crypt...

I can understand why he'd be mad when he found out... but all his sleeping was slowing the religion. It was ready to expand and needed active leadership... hence the new Archprelate. Who's doing a really good job I must say. Kudos to whoever plays him.

Hi - I like the use of Religion in Cantr. In fact I'm trying to hi-jack an slightly established one currently

The problem is that - despite the Cardinal Rule - you can't really threaten other characters with bad stuff or superstition (unless they are role playing *really* well. They know that I can't actually strike them down. Or if I do come up with a little miracle (I just wounded a heavily defended pirate with a fluke) - they 'know' its just luck, not divine intervention.

I'd like to see some unexplained stuff happening in Cantr, so us religious types can prey on the unknown. The fact is, if you are talking to an experienced player, they know there is nothing you can do within the 'rules' which can surprise them.

I think that 'real' inhabitants of Cantr would be much more suseptable to 'the unknown' or religion.

I have characters who would be susceptible. The ghost ships have at least one of my characters wary of ghostly pirates.

You can capitalize on the fear of pirates, divine control over the animals, or simply by brute force of will (there are certain leaders that seem to do this pretty well).

I think the key to a religion being formed and lasting IC, beyond people running around saying "I believe in JOS", the god/prophet must be real to them. Im currently experimenting with that idea, by introducing a character that's somewhat like a spiritual healer- She thinks she sees and knows things others don't. (Which can come off as arrogant or just a naive newspawn if noone will play along.) Luckily someone kind of is. forming the opinion that there's something quite different about her. Maybe if she makes several predictions in a row (which are really based on psychology,) soon someone will think she is "special," and she'll be worshipped.

PS Of course, characters aren't gods, but with the idea in mind that some people suspect someone has super abilities, it's my hope that other characters will suspect that of my char as well. Deffinately without my character saying "im a god, worshipp me"

ooh... a messiah character huh? Hmm... unfortunately, messiah types do better when they and their people are being oppressed...

There aren't too many oppressive places that I've been to. Not since the Lad empire fell apart have I seen a place where a "messiah" would have been possible.
