I don't think it will make a huge difference to Burgeo because of all the other beasts there to be found also. It's an odd wild Safari island anyway, as long as they have places on the island they can still live on it should be fine.
As you move inland to the Burgeo forests it's not really the Elephants that are the most to be wary of. Last time my char took the ride inland to a nearby forest there was 177 Rhino's, plus you have your Gorilla's, Wolves, Lions, and Bears and many others that will try to kill you just as easy.
It's a great island because it's so dangerous, if your character snoozes on travels they won't wake, simple as that.
If it's other wild animals were taken away too much there is risk it will become a mini K isle, they like living with a little danger on Burgeo.
I am curious though, are the animals on Burgeo set to be more aggresive, or is it their sheer numbers that make then vicious to be near.? If you have a group travelling and you get a newspawn in one of the inland forests, the make a wooden shack theory to escape the animals is just not possible without tons of healings. I'd say you'd be lucky enough to last the time it takes to make a bone shield if you were unlucky to spawn a character insland and thats from seeing that attempted ingame.
You can expect up to more then five attacks a day by travelling solo to uninhabitated towns and because a few attack at once sometimes you have to alert for that.
The reason i ask is that i have one on what my char calls the Ranlands, the mixed with polish language island. They also have huge Elephants, wolves and cheetah's but have only been attacked about three times in their near sixty years maybe and get on fine with just a wooden shield. The towns are just as uninhabitated as Burgeo but they are very docile there, maybe it's all the herbs around for them to eat, who knows. Or it could be that the island is so very vast that they just don't get overcrowded in numbers like Burgeo. Apart from the Lemmings on Ranlands, so many lemmings, there is nothing like a little lemming golf with and upturned sledgehammer.
