In my opinion you are mistaken. I can prove it.

before this rule appeared i was perfectly fine and happy to trudge through and attempt to survive with this guy and if he died at 24 years and 19 days then the animals were just too brutal for him and he dies, what ticked me off is that i could try all that hard work and if he dies even a day too early i get punished for it

viktor - just to clarify in that specific case you would only have to wait 1 day before the slot becomes open - I realise I haven't made that clear

Because of the way in which this is implemented it means that essentially every day over the 23rd birthday means one less day that the slot is locked. So a character who dies on their 24th birthday will create a locked slot for 20 days

I understand perfectly that you were just using this as an example and this fact probably does little to change your opposition to the idea.

on the contrairy, this in fact makes me feel a lot better, i still have some qualms but nowhere near as an anti 40day rule hardliner as i was 5 minutes ago. :)

To clarify, I didn't mean that either. Life should be valuable on both ends of the sword. But I'm fed up with seeing people only blame the victims.

Anyway, now that I thought of it, why 25 years? (Yes, I know CJ said it could be changed easily.) I suggest either shortening it down to 22 or 23 (still dissuades newspawns) or making it equal to everyone (excepting death from old age, if it's ever implemented).

Suicide takes time so I think there should be a free minimum time also. If your character gets killed before the time it cant hit anyone. Is it a day only? Then the slot will not be closed. Ill explain why.

Right now there is a war going on between turkish (hgorian) characters and swedish newspans in the original turkish region. The turkes kills off all chars that say "Hej" or anything else in swedish. They do it right away. As new chars tend to be placed in the same place as the just killed one. (maybe something to prevent suicidal newspans or) the new char created will get killed as fast as the first one.

But maybe this is a good rule here. Now the turks can actually kill of the swedes in the land they see as theirs. But like 40 days later I guess, many newspans in other parts of the swedish zone will seek a living as conquistadores. And maybe later all turkes will end up in some small place there some turkish explorers just happend to be during the swedish masacure of turkish chars. They will then have to survive the animals there with no established infrastructure, and have many 40 day pauses.

As the established characters and places are so few in sweden and turkey and many other languagezones, this is not very unlikely. A galleon with dedicated conquistadores would easily wipe out sweden, turkey or any other small language zone. Maybe making that zone totally empty for characters if they dont have some place of distant explorers or a new nondynamic spawning place established.

Um...I think you might be confused, go read the annoucement again.

And you really have a char that was planning to commit suicide for IC reasons at 24? :? I find that kind of hard to believe.

Argh! And already we've got another suicidal one! And this guy's not even bothering to run.

I guess I shouldn't have expectd the thing to work overnight though...and oh well, at least for once I can enjoy it when he dies, since I know I'm not helping him turn around and spawn another.

How do you know he's suicidal?

Has he expressed a wish to die?

Maybe he's just a new player? Or a crap thief?

This is one of the things I hate - the assumption of suicidal tendencies where there often are none

The guy picks up every note and item in town and then just stands there, doesn't run and never says a word. Even to a new player that 'Talk to All' button should be pretty obvious...

I apologise, but, in my opinion, you commit an error. Write to me in PM, we will communicate.

Well it doesn't really matter if he cares about the slot, we need are notes back and he's dying anyway unless he wakes up. My char is trying to be fair so she gave him 24 hours to drop everything, but as a player I know it's pointless to give him even that long and I'm only hoping he doesn't edit over them all just to be a jerk.

Phalynx wrote:This is exactly the point of the rule - You character doesn't want to die, he wants to survive... survival is the natural instinct... but no, you find playing them boring and you think get rid of him so you make him suicidal thats CRB. You charracter has no idea that he might reincarnate in an exciting interesting place...

If he was legitimately suicidal IG he would have dropped his shield and let the animals have their worst, probably days ago... but that's not something someone does lightly because they can't be bothered anymore. Feel the pain of your character... if he is suicidal and takes his own life that hurts its the most despereate thing in the world. Under this rule, now you lose 1/15th of your game play for 40 days maybe you can feel a little of his pain... mourn for that time hey?

I've yet to hear a convincing argument against this rule other than "I like to CRB"

Well... May I ask you a question? Please don't take it so bad, but: Who are YOU to determinate what MY characters want to do? If all my characters were born simply to quit their own life at the age of 24, Am I CRB'ing?
None of my characters have died since the very first day I started to play this game. And I am grown up enough to understand that the best way to play is without tricks. So for me, that 40-day rule is simply an absurd. What will happen if a group of pirates kill my 23 years old character? Is it fair for me that I have to wait 40-days to create a new one, just because a group of idiots have been dedicated to ruin other's lives?

The "Congress" have not thought of some point when they dictated the 40-day law: A character's objetive (or an organization's objective) could be simply killing guys or girls on his/her twenties. And Cantr is giving them the way to eliminate, not only new characters, but new players.

Another thing I do not understand: Why Cantr Staff is always thinking players are proffessional trickers? Don't they have to consider players as fair ones, until some kind of violation to the rules is demonstrated?
