this is a great thread.

The only thieving experience I have was a character a while back (I only ever make one character at a time, I'm a busy man)

I was very new to the game, got confused and thought these people were trying to enslave me, and so I ran off with a bunch of clothes I got from there tomb, a bunch of food, and a bunch of healing stuff.

They kept arguing with me on the path, telling me to turn around, and I bargained with them for days.

I ran very far away, but they caught up with me in some bycycles, and killed me (it took forever though, I kept healing myself)

However, when I died, they found about ten politically charged notes (critiziezing them, mostly) and crazed religious rantings.

I thought it was funny anyway

Yes, that was really stupid. How would you feel if your mom died and someone stole her goddamn clothes? I know that was just newbie ignorance but at least my character could never forgive what you did.

Oh, Yo_Yo...that ripoff of DoUrden you pulled was rather pitiful. I don't even know what you took, aside from keys and the car. Can't find anything important missing.

Yah, nobody has a mother in Cantr, man.

But here's a big morale delima for you? Say this bunch of guys decided to lock you up and put you to work in a mine for the rest of your life, completly without provocation? I bet you'd feel pretty bad if you took some food to keep you alive from them, wouldn't you? Wouldn't you?

And besides, in my personal opnion, in a society such as Cantr were people are so utilitarian as to have almost no religious beliefs or superstitions, in which people let bodies rot on the ground so as not to lose time burying them, were everyone is dirt poor, well, in a society like that, I believe that possesions are for the living, don't you think?

I mean, if your an Ethiopian peasant, and your children run around naked because you can't get them clothes, don't you think you would take those clothes off a corspe (who won't be using them anyway) of a bandit, well, wouldn't you?

That's how things go in Cantr.

Besides man, it's a game.

Don't worry, I didn't dig up anyone you know.

Um, actually the Nosse (I can't type the special e) does. It's the title for their leader when the leader is female (which it generally is) I believe. For more, you need to hear from someone who'se had characters in the Nosse...like Seko, obviously.

I cannot believe you just said that. "Society such as Cantr". Cantr doesn't have one society, even with all the OOC cross-contimination. It has quite a lot of them. Most of which don't meet your description.

Of course, there clothes have a purpose...in cantr, you're stealing jewlery essentially. That you usually can't sell.

Well, that's not exactly a biological mother, now is it? It's a taken on mother.

Actually, I'm writting a (Cantr) religious text on the subject.

A world such as Cantr, rather.

True enough.

I'm confused, are you saying the person in question is so passive that they'd feel bad stealing food from their captores in order to survive? If so, I don't think that's the point that's intended from team good guys. We're saying, that to commit random crime against beings, dead or alive, that have done nothing to others to deserve it, is wrong.

I am one of the most honest, giving, individuals you will ever meet, however, if someone kidnaps me, I will steal their food, and kick them in the groin, to survive. So it's not that we're rediculously passive, we just believe in treating others how we wish to be treated. In life, and in Cantr.

Nope, never had a Nossé character, I only said i'd be interested in having one. I was referring to Jessamin McGregor, whom we used to call Mother (well at least after she died. Or at least Dove and Brigid used that word, I don't know about the others). Can't say it wouldn't be based on real-life knowledge, but so are many other things. No matter what the word, it means a loved elder woman who takes care of you. And even if there was no legitimate word for that, the feeling itself is well possible in Cantr. If we want to start splitting hair then we can make up new words in Cantr. I think many people could seriously use a mama. It fills the empty space before finding a lover, and if you think about it more clearly, even having love affairs is an outsider consept. So should we get a new word for that too? Or stop feeling love because it's not programmed in?

Me and my stupid assumptions.

And to take one more step down the path to total irrelevance...
I don't see a problem with importing 'love'...that's such a hard thing to work out the causes of IRL it doesn't seem unreasonable for it to turn up in cantr.

I do object to the sex in cantr, because it's totally nonsensical in light of cantrian 'biology'.

Um...trying to be on-topic...
I've got two boating characters who came by their vessels in somewhat less than honest manners (really, who comes by their first ship honestly?). One didn't really steal (I believe), but everyone thought he did at first because he finished an abandoned longboat project with all the wood added...just shortly after an older character had shown up and tried to claim the nearly-finished project as his rightful property.

The other one held the poorly-armed rightful owner of the boat at sabre-point, far enough out at sea that there was no chance to help. Then when the man intelligently turned over the key as demanded, he ditched him at the next landing.

I didn't feel bad in stealing things from people who wanted me dead or enslaved.

And as I said before, possesions are for the living.
