In truth... i will have lost so much momentum now with some of my characters, and don't even recall where some are... or what they were doing.
All would be sleeping or working quietly somewhere, as I was away for the week when the game went down. One only is in the middle of a conversation that [he] was finding a challenge... but enjoyable too.

I should have taken day reports I guess... but you just don't think it's necessary all the time.
Time to find the time and raise my game, when we get back. I just hope other people feel the same... many seem to.

I'm gonna be honest.. After the first hack, I had a hard time coming back to the game. My relationship was on the rocks and I had gotten into FTO which was different for me. When the game came back up, I think I checked maybe 3 of my 15 chars before it was down again. With FTO and Cantr down currently, I have more time with my children, and my relationship is building into something that is stronger then it has ever been. I am also currently going back to school and haven't had time to even get onto msn to talk to the people that I used to. When the game comes back up, I will more then likely sign onto my account and hand over the keys to the people that I trust to run the towns that I am in charge of. And yes I say towns... there are a few. I didn't actually mean to come on the forum. It was an accidental click that was meant for my class website, but since it came up, I decided to look around to see if there was anything that might grab my interest. Hopefully one day I will come back but I can't make any promises. To the people that I have rp'd with... It has been great. There has been tons of laughter, and many tears shed. I will not forget any of the memories that we have shared over the years. Thank all of you *and you all should know who you are* for a most enjoyable rp experience. You all have been the reason I have stuck around.

Miri wrote:It certainly would be interesting - a completely new world, a history to write from the very beginning. The islands could be made smaller, and resources could be reorganised to diversify regions more and promote long-way trade, for example.
But the bad thing is it could cause a disaster for our 'players' resource. I'm sure there are many people hanging around just because of their bond with their current characters. Without it... :?

What if a natural disaster was to strike and decimate part of an island, maybe a tsunami an earthquake or a hurricane or something similar. Playing Sim City or such games clicking the 'Disaster' button to devastate your city and then have the challenge of rebuilding..

Players generally having several characters it would be likely that only one or two would be in the area of the disaster, those that are not might hear about it on their island or another island elsewhere and could travel to help with the rebuilding etc.

Without something new and exciting, some major 'action events' in the game I may not be around for the restart, we'll just have to wait and to see.

From what I have just read here... Things are already going to be tough for some of my characters.
If some of them are killed off in a disaster? I probably would give up altogether.

Sorry... but destroying your own 'sim' is one thing... destroying what other's have built themselves in the process... I think is something different altogether.

Either way... time is ticking. Might be no bad idea to start the poll again, and see what the influence of even short periods of time are having now?

You could always start a new poll to determine the level of people's frustration/disappointment over this incident, and give several choices. If you word the choices in the right way, you might can read between the lines and see who may quit. Most of the people who have absolutely decided to quit, will not be here for a poll as some have pointed out. But many of the remaining players, checking the forums for updates may be getting to that point. People who are increasingly becoming busy, finding new games, disappointed, frustrated, etc.; while still holding onto the game (by a hair that is) are the ones you'll get all your data from here.

Yes... I follow your points.
I just think repeating the existing one would be more telling?
I am not about to start one though... am just rambling.

Losing players is always going to be a blow, obviously.

However, there is the opportunity for real positives here. Aside from the incentive to fix the security issues which have been floating around for years, this is a very good chance to address those game mechanics which have hampered the game.

I mean things like skills & slots. This is a great chance to reconsider these issues while the game is down. I urge people to condense their thoughts on what would make the game better and communicate those to the GAB (or to me and the GAC).

Stay positive, folks!

I am gettign pretty frustrated with this situation, and am thinking baout how many of my characters associates that I depended on will not be there. As stated before I will be back. Although I think something that would help would be daily updates. Something as short as "progress made today on x and x" would be awesome, just so I and others know the situation isn't stagnant.

The people (a couple actively, a few not so actively) working on fixing and testing Cantr have stuff to do besides fixing Cantr and keeping you updated. Things like taking care of their school/jobs to put food on their (and their families, where applicable) tables.

I am updating the appropriate thread when I feel there is something new to announce. This is not going to happen daily, as there are many days when there is no progress at all.

(This is me starting to get really frustrated about people demanding a lot of things from me without considering for a moment the amount of hours I put into this every week. Hours I could actually earn money or have fun instead. And I am sure I speak for several other members of staff as well.)

I understand your frustration.

This is me starting to get really frustrated about people demanding a lot of things from me without considering for a moment the amount of hours I put into this every week.

However, please consider that no one here has any concept of the amount of hours that you put into this every week. They can't appreciate that which they don't understand.

@Everyone - every second he spends updating you is a second he's not fixing the game. It will be back when it's back, and it's not possible to make the process go faster. If you read the Rant of the Day thread, you'll get an idea of how he's exhausting himself trying to get this done (chronic sleep deprivation leading to illness).

Thank you for your continued patience.

Overall... I think members are remaining pretty positive... the nature of this thread I think, just allows people to elaborate on why or why not they may return, and along with it... some of the reasons that will make them think carfully about their first few days back?
I have a great deal of sympathy with the poster with dependencies that may or may not exist on his return... I am the same... it is going to be an interesting few days when any relaunch happens I think... that is all people are alluding to here.
Consider it continued OOC speculation about IC developments.

Also, i think appreciation for the efforts of those behind the scenes has been stated... I have stated so myself. i just think.. given that this thread is seeking some sort of 'measure' of returns, as it seems to... then, be aware... as time passes... people may continue to 'drop off'.

I will state again... Thanks to all involved in repairing the game... but do not kill yourself in the process. I have little clue as to the complexities involved here, but my own frustrations, and the frustrations of others should be taken merely as a measure too... not necessarily demands or complaints?

As i said... retake the same 'returns' poll... and get two 'snapshots' for comparison..? It's not brilliantly methodologically sound... but it will provide an indicative survey response of sorts.
Either way... I will be back, if not now immediately the moment the game re-opens... but at some point within a couple of days.
I have other things now, and it is true what they say... any anount of work grows to fill the space allotted to it.

Take care... seriously.
Nobody wants to see anybody getting so frustrated as to become 'ill' here.

Echo-Man, take your time. Okay? Don't rush, don't stress yourself out, don't become ill... you're working on something that will take a long time anyhow because of all the work, and we all really appreciate that as people and as players. So do whatever you need to do, take days off, breaks, fix, whatever you want. Life is important, and your health is too. :) as they say for everyone here, paitence is a virtue.

So everyone, lets be patient and give those working hard to fix things our support. :)

Nuts to your personal life Echoman! Jk lol XD

I wasn't 100% serious with the dialy thing, just me ranting. Take your time, I rather wait the while and have a relaible cantr then have a rushed one that will need to be taken down right after. As for the dminished population that is likely to happen...build it and they will come.

Keep the good work going, and thanks

Don't bother letting the doomsday feeling carry too much pull. The game may restart a bit slowly, but those who may not be around at relaunch will likely migrate back within a month or two afterwards. Word will get around, or they'll simply be hit with a pang for RP and will check back.

Might be an idea for a staff member who might not be directly a part of the labour intensive programing and rebuilding to occasionally update the date so people don't assume the game is abandoned. It wouldn't even require a new message. It's a fundamental first impression thing for browser based communities as a whole right?

If our emails are on file (they were required to register, weren't they?) you could always send out a mass mail notifying everyone that Cantr II is back up.
