Well, you came before the time that Maynard Leeward was (is) quite an evil man. Craktar and him pretty much destroyed the region, murdered lots of people, betray lots of people, and pretty much began the continous wars and continous mistrust of all the regions major powers.
I don't know how he did it but Maynard has pretty much erased his past and his hands of this. There are only a few older characters that know about what happened and they are either supporting him for whatever reasons or there are those that are trying to fight him but are finding that everyone thinks he is a hero of mythic proportion among the people.
I am going to laugh my ass off once Maynard does what he did in the past again. Just my little theory and prophecy.

Well, I have a character that isn't all that young and does remember these things. He also use to work for Maynard but that was in the days of the First Krif Empire and when Maynard Leeward was the Dark Lord.
I guess you can kind of say that he was involved in many of the murders and deliverance of mistrust but that was back when his mind and morals were clouded. It took the fall of the First Krif Empire, his affairs with the Alliance (or Smoke Jaguars as everyone remembers them) and Seatown Forest, and eventually Gregor Mendal (one of Craktar's old guard) and Donna Trent to change his heart.

Yes, I have and I love the series though the first book was the best. Why do you ask? Are you referring to the political intrigue of Dune and how it relates to that part of Cantr.
Maybe we can rip "The spice must flow" and make it "The iron must flow" as it seems that iron is the hottest commodity in that region and Seatown Forest is the only power in the actual bounds of the region that has control of the only source of iron. I do know that others bring it in from other places but not nearly as enough as Seatown Forest seems to be able pump out of the ground in a day.
