Re: Game changes - discussion about implemented changes.
As I understand it, the complication is in making an object (the horse) also a location (which is what vehicles are) and still retain the object's characteristics (the need to eat, etc.)

Ah, but you don't have to do that for domestication, that's just for the riding part.

This is what I meant when I asked this question last spring:
Subject: Animals domestication - finally there!
I've just been assuming we'd domesticate first, and then learn to ride and a few of my characters have been bugging me to know why they can't have a pet horse yet. I told them I asked..
I should have used "domesticate" not "tame." My bad.

BosBaBe wrote:All of this new complicated stuff, but still no horse domestication, not even talking about horse back riding. And even then, the issue that is apparently in the way is non-existent. How to make and store hay on the road to feed the horse? Make saddlebags machines that dry grass as well as store it. Or, make a feed bag. All can just be made with some leather and iron. :c *sigh*
First I'm doing things which I find interesting. Sometimes I get the idea about the problem I'm struggling with for months and then I want to immediately see how it will look like. I wouldn't really spend half of the night on horseback riding discussion instead of doing things I did last week. I'd go to sleep. So horses discussion isn't going slower because of that.
Things in RD always go slow, because everybody must be sure everything's as good as it can be. ProgD part of domestication was ready in September, while first animals became tameable in February. And I think it was really fast.
At the same time I sometimes see posts like "It was accepted in year 200X so why it's not yet implemented?".
The thing I was working on is connected with interesting suggestion from ~2009.
BosBaBe wrote:*Wiro wrote:You'd be welcome to join RD. Having more input is never bad, and horseback riding especially needs more. It's a delicate system that needs to be balanced between overpowered and useless. The intention is to make horses the preferred vehicle for explorers, while cars are still better on roads.
Nonetheless, Greek is working on dozens of projects at once and it is his decision which he wants to work on. After all he does this in his free time. Horses will come soon enough!
What is this RD you speak of? xD And sure, I understand that is needs to be balanced, but I'm mostly looking forward to just being able to domesticate them. I have a character that couldn't get away with riding one, but she has personal reasons for wanting one. Horses are therapeutic, or so I've heard. As for the explorer thing, that's another major reason why I want them. A lot of my characters would love to ride around on horse back.
As for the suggestion itself, I could have sworn you made it and I just agreed, now I'm spitting it out here because every time I see a new announcement for updates, I scan through it for the words 'horse domestication'. Nothing comes up. :C If you think about it, it would be more realistic to make it that we can domesticate horses now, then have to wait some time before we can ride them. Characters can rp 'breaking' the horses in by trying to ride them bare back.

Well, that's not how things are developed. It's not that deciding about half of horses' parameters (e.g. amount of feed eaten, taming time and tools) takes half of the time and the rest takes the other half.
I'd be really easy if we could do things this way. System has to be developed as a whole, and it's still complicated. New ideas that appear from time to time can affect any part of the system. If we make feed requirement too low and then decide to add something new and cool, then horses can become too overpowered or would have to be done slower to balance things out. Or this low feed requirement would have to be increased, but it can't be done easily, because people quickly get used to easier things.

Introducing domestication of horses that are not as functional as they are expected to be (even if was possible) would lead to another group of people asking "I've spent so much time to tame a horse and now I can't put a saddle on it? Why?". Some people are interested in having horses as pets and some want them only for horseback riding. It's impossible to keep everyone happy. At least I hope that everyone will be happy when it will become available, but it's still pretty much impossible.
Code for handling horseback riding is ready and it's not much left. But all what I can really guarantee is that it will become available as fast as the work is finished.

Lol..I'm not complaining for even a second, Greek. I love everything you do and it's always worth waiting for. It's like Christmas everytime, no matter how long between things.
I was just making a joke (at my own expense) about my word usage and another one (at my own expense) about how I actually do talk to my characters. Seriously, thanks for all you do! You make my characters quite happy on a regular basis. They tell me so.

New hats! Mostly implemented by Seko, with some help from me.
Enjoy your straw hat, felt hat (it's a cowboy hat!), bowler hat, fedora, and silver wreath.

Mmm silver wreath.

Silver wreath? I have a certain character that would look absolutely beautiful on. I know what her next project is!

I'd like to point out that even though the standard description for felt hat is a cowboy hat, there's nothing stopping you from describing it like Gandalf's hat if you have a character who would wear such a thing. The name was left ambiguous on purpose.

I've seen a shipwreck for the first time. I didn't see the event, but my character docked to an empty town and they found it.

I've seen one too! It was really fun to enter it and find some ancient notes and minimal piles of junk.

That sounds really exciting... I didn't know they'd be enterable!

Yeah, just like any other vehicle. I don't want to spoil more here. I wish you all could have this experience with at least one char.

I just noticed the new hats need water to be made (And in the exact same amount of wool cloth. It only happened with the fedora, felt hat and bowler hat). Is this an overlook, or is it a new method I never heard of?
