There are roleplayed families though, my chars have come across several people where they work for their "father" or their "sister".

Yes, it originated mostly in KDS. By the 400s or so El Adan had formed the Nosse', which was clustered in terms of brothers and sisters (e.g. Brother Taowyn). The Rangers shared a similar kindred amongst their ranks, from which Locke started the first nuclear family by adoption and marriage, the latter was already custom in the region.

To the south, Clan MacGregor also accepted the practice, being "cousins" of the Nosse by marriage. Jessamin, a Nosse member, married Gregor, leader of the MacGregors, making them 'related.' Angus MacGregor was accepted by Gregor to be his spiritual son, though he shared more wild blood with his uncle, the infamous scoundrel Glen Morangie.

Don't forget the House of Aragon, they are all related by adoption and marriage. At least, that's the impression I got when my chars passed through there.

All this talk of immortal charries embedding themselves in towns and ruling them forever is silly. This happens right now with characters barely out of their twenties. Power has nothing to do with age. All you need is a strong line of succession for this to happen: Seatown Forest, Lad, etc. These governments are essentially impervious and it has nothing to do with the age of the charries, so that argument is complete bunk.

Anyway, in my experience in open-ended games (or sims), all players eventually get bored, and when they do, they go on suicidal sprees of violence and die, so the odds of anyone ever living even to their 120's is, in my opinion, slim to none.

That's my point Doug. I don't think it is necessary for a hard stop in the life of a character. Normal game mechanics and player boredom will take care of things in a "natural" way. In the unlikely event someone keeps an old character around it would be interesting and not any detriment to the game.

This is why I advocate letting it all happen naturally.

I'd like to see people be able to live a very long time. If they go through the trouble to get them not killed, they should be left alone.

And besides, if people die in their eighties and such, we won't be able to have any Castro like dictators. I want to rule for a thousand years, not come to power in a glorious coup and then die from a cold. Give us more time.

If they do have age limits, maybe as old as the oldest person in the world. I heard it was 126. Or atleast as old as most mormon prophets.

I am all for having old people die.

Probably because I don't have any old people.

Uuhm, did I miss something? Castro came to power in 1959, which is like 47 years ago, not a thousand. :)

There's been no such thing with any single leader. The one that comes to mind only lasted 12 or so years.

I don't think you guys really get what I was talking about. I do not literally mean ruling for a thousand years. You completly missed what I mean.

And by the way, Hitler had no intention of ruling for a hundred years.
