So, what does Sebastian Tyrwhitten do now?
Copy and paste the wiki into his notes?

I'm not so sure about this - only because I'd have liked this kind of information - this collation of information on manufacturing/items/tools and so forth - to have been generated in gam,e by in game exploration and co operation.

But, as far as the rules, hints and so forth go - I like that

I wasn't so sure about the idea at first, but if it does anything to help Cantr actually keep new players than I'm all for it. I've been around for awhile, and there are things I'm still not completely clear on. If I hadn't started playing at a relatively uncluttered point in my life I would have probably given up - Cantr has a steep learning curve, and right now for instance, I wouldn't have time to deal with that.

I'm not saying the wiki will "fix" a person that simply has no patience or attention span, but we should at least try to make figuring out the OOC aspects as painless as possible, so new players can concentrate on learning things IC.

I know the informations available in bits and pieces, but somebody should probably together a comprehensive newbie section about what a new character might expect, what the buttons are for, real food vs. healing food, how to build things, etc. (Just a personal example, it took me awhile to figure out that the reason I couldn't leave a room was because I was working on a project - thought I was locked in and panicked. )

I'm pasting some of Tyrwhitten's guide across to the wiki - but I can't do a straight space - even trying to use <tt> or <FONT = "courier"> doesn't work on the spaces - so the tables go skewy. - the tools table is in the tools section - bu is only readable in 'edit' mode...

If someone wants to render that readable (or just delete it) they're welcome to - Tyrwhitten's also got weapon, protection, building, vehicle etc. lists like the tools list I'm happy to e-mail / PM to anyone who'll make them readable on the wiki - there's also a whole load of stuff he's got about machines that can be added - but I don;t have the time. The wiki does the same as the forums for me - typing in the boxes is VERY slow - so I have to copy/paste from notepad. I'll hapily e-mail the machine stuff to anyone who'll update that too.

Look out for a new edition of Tyrhwitten's guide over the next week or so - full of new information that has somehow, although he can't explain it, suddenly become known to him...

Does anyone know if it'd possible to use HTML in a Wiki edit? I just tried adding the interface guide I did ages ago - but a simple copy/paste of the html source makes it go all screwy... I wish I had the time and the right computer to sort all this out *sighs* roll on Uni term and the extra free time...

just add the <nowiki> tag to the area you want to ignore the wiki formatting.

Could someone write about time in Cantr and how it works. I would but I suck at explaining stuff. LOL. I just think this is a very important thing that a lot of new people are confused about when they first start. Or they used to be.

Er... under skills it says foresting/mining skills are not implementd yet. Is that true? Because I had a character who was very good at foresting... was it just luck then, not skill?

In this circumstance, chopping wood.

In RL it can also include reforestation (i.e. planting trees) and conservation.

In Cantr terms, it's gathering/chopping wood.

That was the first thing I tried - but that makes it ignore ALL formatting - HTML or no - and just prints out the source on the screen...

EDIT: Thanks to whoever made that tooltable readable... There are still a few 'unknowns' to be filled in...

Also - I've updated http://www.cantr.net/mwiki/index.php/Machine_Guide_To_Cantr_v1.0 with Tyrwhitten's info that wasn't there - but I haven't had time to format it the same as the orginal authour...
