I'd describe it as the achiever trope - they don't care about character interactions, relationships, dramas, etc. Exploration (unless it's something to be achieved) isn't a big deal either. They're entirely concerned with stuff - getting stuff, having more stuff, having the best stuff, etc. The downfall of that is once everything attainable has been achieved - they get bored and typically move on.

Ummm.. Isn't that kind of definitional?
And by the way, I have goals, and am proactive in achieving them -- my goal is annoy players like Doug R.

I am one of the last simmers still playing this game, and damnit, I refuse to go quietly!

I play some of my chars like this. :)

Correct.

Really, really far off base.

Yep, guess you missed the joke.

Yep, and you're way more successful than I, Master. I guess it's because you seem to embrace the roleplayers instead of allowing the pages of flirting/swimming/mud-fight text to shut your characters down like I do. That's the downside of having attention deficit problems, I guess. When I log in and find more than a page of irrelevant (to my character) text to scroll through, I'm already mentally defeated.

That would be me also, then.

...and this is exactly why we need urgent reforms to the Events page. Seriously, we've lost so many simmers just to this problem of irrelevant text it's no surprise that the Cantr economy is non-existent.

I don't mean to criticise the RPers, but we cannot cater too much to one type of player. Especially when figuring out a way for players to filter their Events page should be relatively easy in comparison to changing game mechanics.

I should make drama illegal in my towns.

Doug's Laws for Happy Cantr:

You're only allowed to speak 6 times per hour.
Emoting counts as speaking.
If you're a male, you must be castrated to live here.
If you're a female, you must wear a full burka.
It's illegal not to be working on a project.
You must be proactive in seeking what you want.
You must have goals.
Your goals must make sense for the economy/area.
Sleeping is illegal.
Heartattacking is subject to the death penalty.

You're my new favorite person. :D
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

I am so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying.

I'm with you too, Doug. I have mostly sim characters, a couple of them mix that up with a little RP.

She hasn't fallen asleep yet, so she's alright in my book. Plus she has her new foreign distraction to keep her content.

I do like role-playing, don't get me wrong; it's why I was able to adapt and am still here, but I try to keep my public role-playing relevant to as many characters as possible to keep everyone's interest. This is why I tend to play military or political oriented characters, because their actions are relevant to a lot of characters. In the absence of broad relevance, I just keep them silent and working. Relationships are also very important, but I don't take them nearly to the extent of many people, and I keep it mostly behind doors. You won't catch me roleplaying how to learn or teach someone a skill in public. I know people always complain about whispering, and people always assume extended whispering is sex, but I'd honestly prefer anything that's not of broad relevance to be whispered (or done indoors), simply so I don't have to read it.

I don't think simmers are better than role-players. I just think that the game caters to the latter, and as Surly said, it's gotten really hard for us simmers. Part of being a strategy oriented player is being able to recruit other strategy oriented characters to help, and they're really in short supply. You can't accomplish broad strategic goals without help, and the only help available are role-play oriented characters. They may help so long as the RP is good. However, RP isn't my character's focus, so the RP isn't good (for them), and the next RP drama in town sends them walking off down the road with whatever drama-king/queen just happened to pass through (I've seen it happen more times than I can count). I've often complained that everything that can be done has been done in Cantr, but that's not really true. All the easy/medium difficulty things have been done. The only things left to do are massive in scope, and the characters needed to accomplish them are fundamentally unreliable, because their player is playing for different reasons than I am. Simmers play for the future, role-players for the moment, and unlike Mojo, I can't keep their moments interesting enough to keep them around working for me.

I'm sorry this has gotten so off-topic.

Ugh! Indoors, sure, no problem, but the whispering? I can't stand having to scroll through pages of:
You hear A whispering to B
You hear B whispering to A
Except for the occasional overhear, it's deadly dull (and yes, Doug, like you, I am ADHD). I'd rather not see that at all. Because now I have to think either A) it's sex B) someone's talking about my character or C) it's something else my character and/or player really, really wants to hear, and the curiousity is killing me. (not that my characters never whisper -- they do, but not usually to the extent I've seen others do, and almost always to spare the feelings/keep confidences of the whisperee, not my char, and never s-e-x). I'd rather not know any whispering is being done at all, then get all paranoid about it and have it filling up my screen. (Now, if we could get some AI in here to just say: "3205 2:01-2:17 -- You see A whispering to B 21 times, and B whispering back to A 19 times", I would be down with that.)

Whispering doesn't really bother me. I find it easier to quickly scroll through various lines of
A whispers to B
B whispers to A

than to have to actually deal with either of them saying all of those things out loud. Especially in bigger towns, it's easy for stuff to get lost in the mass of people just talking.

I never assume people are having sex and I don't care enough to be curious about what they're talking about.

In large towns, I just Ctrl +F my chars name or "says to you" or something just because I don't have the patience to read through all of the babble that people have going to see if there's anything that needs my attention.

Whispering better than people having their ridiculous convos out loud, I think.

I never even thought that people who whisper are having sex. And Adhd has nothing to do with thinking that or whatever.

Glad I'm not the only one with this predicament. :(
