It means "human, except Cantr mechanics tell you otherwise explicitly". That is, they are human, except that they are not born, feed only once a day, all weigh the same, sleep 20 (RL) hours the day etc.
I don't know why you read the line as "human in the way dictated by game mechanics".

Well in essence they can look like anything that a player decides they should as long as it doesn't go beyond game mechanics and still retains an overall human like shape...it makes for very interesting diverse roleplay as long as you are willing to play along with it.
SIMMONS--SNOWWIS--hmmm interesting don't you think

And who said they have a navel? I don't think ANY of my characters has one. O.O
And they each only have 4 toes... and none of them actually have teeth but instead are more like turtles and have a bone that looks like teeth... and... and they eat by mitosis... just absorbing the food (This is honestly the ONLY WAY I can rationalize everyone eating at the same time and not noticing)
It just depends on what type of "doll" each of us are used too. I had a Mr. Potato Head, so my characters are a bit.... everywhere.

My point was more Doug and his voluntees being under the presumation we're not retards. Doug, I hope you will learn from this mistake and in future explain every obvious detail slowly and louder than required and if that doesn't work, just slap us about for a bit. It's the only way we'll learn.
...no comment on whether I'm going back on the no-joke thing or not in this post.

Oh and I'm being 100% serious now, too. My last few posts were rather sarcastic.
I see what you're doing. By agreeing with me you invaildate my point. Very clever. I'll go and join the lizard people crying in the corner.
(Note - lizard people may have tearducts due to the people part where as lizards - generally - don't.)

Re: Multi-limbs and portals
LOL! This is funny and a good point too. But I tell you what... The guy who started that charactor has a great immagination. I would love to be in the same town and role play with him. At least I wouldn't get bored. I remember smashing the cars up and running into trees. Cars can't get smashed up or broken in cantr and everyone was fine with that. (Lady Elizabeth Magregor) .Many arms can carry the many things you have. If you want realistic in the game. How can you carry sand for instance sand without many arms? Impossible! HUMANS can't carry around Kilograms of sand everywhere without some sorry of backpack or many arms.
Oh and the portal part.... It kind of is and isn't cool. One cantr is based on the times before electricity and two portals are SCIENCE not magic.

If it happens in real life then it's normal. And I've seen much weirder things in the description change reports, like someone with a purple nose.

That happens when you drink to much. Or deflect a punch with your face.
Six fingers are pretty common (in RL I mean), but I think it usually happens on both hands. Well, not too sure about it actually.
