Cantr II is not currently available. How bad is it?

General out-of-character discussion among players of Cantr II.

Does the server work the way you think it should?

Not at all! I'll quit this game if the problem is not solved now!

I hate it, but I love the game so much so I'll probably stay anyway.

It's not that bad. Could be better, but does not bother me much.

Sounds like a lot of big words. Although it seems like no one ever really says what the actual work is that needs to be done...not that I'd understand it.

Today I notice that often when the events page loads it is very long, like with "show all." This can't be helping the page load times.

I noticed it too, after saying something. I was wondering if I'd accidentally clicked the show all button right after but apparently not.

A structural database change was made yesterday which should have some positive impact on the lag. One side effect of this change is that events for characters will initially "show all" - Once the events for that character have been viewed a few times then the normal behaviour of showing only recently viewed events will return. This is a one-off case for each character - after the first few views the old default behaviour will work as before.

Seems when I have a bit of wind-down time in the evening to play some cantr I can't due to lagging issues or I can only play for a very short duration between these lag-time moments.
I'm not sure what improvements were made. The lag the last few days seems to be worse or is it just me?

No. Lag has been reduced since that change of April. It has been only since yesterday (May 16) that Cantr is almost down.

Yep, yesterday it was a really bad day. I tried to check my charries 4 times during the day, and wasn't able all of them. The pages began to load but after a long while, "the page can't be displayed" appeared.

I too had yesterday really bad. Anything to do with the attack on Estonia? Maybe Cantr's server had been compromised and was a DDoS slave ;)

Yesterday was interesting in that I could get into the game by refreshing the "Cantr is down" page.

Okey, this lag is making me rather upset.

WHAT exactly is causing it? We want information! Please?

And... what do we have to do to help? Recruit coders? Donate money? Kill some terrorists? WHAT?

I agree with Nggh.

What is causing this horrendeous lag? Is it some near-infinity loops caused when someone pokes a rabit? The sheer number of animals being updated that clogs the system or the server being used for shady enterprises?

For the millionth time it's not the animals. Find a new scrapecoat. I assume ProgD doesn't know what causes the lag or they would've fixed it already, but at least it has been said it's not the animals.

Recruiting coders will help. Donating money is less helpful than coders. Killing terrorists... no... terrorists are a subjective point of view.

Wouldn't it seem logical to not implement any more changes until the lag problem is fixed? Adding in more variables cannot be making the problem any easier to solve.

*whispers to Seko* It's the animals. 8)
