I have experienced some strange things with dragging, the first time I did it my average strength, expert fighter was able to drag someone by herself, but my MSTA efficient fighter can only drag someone at about 66%. The first dragee I know was carrying very little while the second dragee was carrying quite a bit. So...there?

Cantriians weigh 60kg and can carry 15kg (more, if you know how to get to that bug, but there's not really an advantage to it since it bogs down your land travel time and you can't even pick up notes from the ground (but you can make copies), unless you're anticipating an attempted dragging I guess).

Skills are assigned point values and certain point values are given certain labels to kind of summarize them. It's like a grading system, so to speak, except it actually focuses on the number instead of the label (the opposite of what college does).

When dragging themselves, characters can complete the dragging project up to 50% of the way. Likewise, if a character tries to drag someone else with their exact same strength and fighting skills (and by skills I mean points), they will only be able to complete it up to 50% (I say up to because I don't know how much carried weight is factored into it, but I do know that it is). So if your character is able to drag them more than 50% of the way, it means your character has more points between strength and fighting than the other. Characters who are able to drag someone else immediately must be considerably stronger than their dragee.

Anyone who has access to 15kg large bones (or whatever) is welcome to test out the carried weight effect thing and share results I suppose. Unless the staff says no.

As far as I can remember, carried weight doesn't matter. Everybody is a standard 60 kilos and strength and fighting skill are applied on both sides.

Okay then I am definitely confused as to how it all comes together if everyone weighs 60 kilos and forget about what they carry, say someone can drag 40 kilos of stuff, they can drag a person by themselves because of their fighting skill?

Things it takes 1 person, 1 day to do:

1. Copy a key (Material used: 10 g iron)
2. Rig a gaff mainsail (3000 g sailcloth, 100 iron, 300 medium rope, 25 string, 2 medium logs)

The maximum dragging value a person can have is 149. The minimum a completely healthy and not tired person can have (assuming they're the weakest and clumsiest person in the world) is 14. If someone is 100 % tired, their contribution is 0 no matter how strong or weak they are.

Other values, assuming 0 tiredness and woundedness, and being average in their ranking inside the skill/strength category:

Code: Select all

        Awkward   Novice   Efficient   Skillful  Expert
MWTA:   28        44        60          77        93
WTA:    39        55        71          87       104
AVG:    50        66        82          98       114
STA:    60        77        93         109       125
MSTA:   71        87       104         120       136

You can see that skill weighs slightly more than strength. So for example someone who is expert but weaker than average corresponds to someone who's efficient and much stronger than average, and someone who's expert but weaker than average corresponds to someone who's efficient and much stronger than average.

The minimum needed to drag a person is 60, even if they were weak, tired and/or wounded, so there's some built in protection. Beyond that, a person's resistance is always double their offensive dragging value, so that's why you always get 50 percent when dragging yourself.

Strength needed to drag a victim who's:

Code: Select all

        Awkward   Novice   Efficient   Skillful  Expert
MWTA:    60        88      120         154       186
WTA:     78       110      142         174       208
AVG:    100       132      164         196       228
STA:    120       154      186         218       250
MSTA:   142       174      208         240       272

The exception is going to be that if someone is on a steed that's loyal to you, only 25% of the usual dragging value will be needed to drag them off, assuming one of the draggers is the steed's owner.

Wow.

That's probably the most useful thing about combat mechanics I've ever seen posted here, thanks Seko.

All this time I'd been completely unaware fighting skill had such a big impact...

Thanks, Seko! Now I don't need to interrupt gameplay to test. Glad to know I wasn't misremembering things, too.

OMG we need a key machine! Like at Home Depot or, well, everywhere, where you can copy a key in like .5 Seconds, so like an hour in Cantr time.

Make a needle out of 20 grams bone: 1 day

tie a sharp piece of bone to a stick: 1 day

pick up a flat piece of bone to scrape a hide with: 1 day

pick 3 tomatoes (~4 oz each): 1 day

A lot of projects are 1 day because there wasn't mass production until recently, and originally the game was intended for people who log in only once a day.

Just to be clear, I do think some of these projects (key copies, needles) should definitely be shorter. Some others should be shorter (farming for particular amounts) if changes to food production get implemented, like weather, decay, etc.

But other projects should also be longer. For a big-ass sail, constructing the frame, fashioning the iron loops and tie points (there's a nautical name for these and I can't remember it), rigging and furling the cloth... this is not a simple procedure, and it is not a one-person job.

So there's room for adjustment on both sides of this weirdness.

Okay, so now that thanks to Seko I know exactly what my much stronger than average, expert fighter is capable of...suggestions for what I should do with them, so not to squander their godlike abilities? They're still pretty young and malleable so pretty much anything goes at this point.

I had actually spawned the character with the idea of playing a quick spawn and run thief for old times sake, but after I saw their skills I just couldn't bring myself to risk it.

People who don't introduce themselves. Especially those who ask "who are you?" but don't offer their own name.

It's like some kind of epidemic lately. A few of my chars have traveled recently, between them to well over a dozen well-populated towns, and I could count on one hand how many people bothered to give their names. Maybe a dozen chars bothered to greet them in return. These young whippersnapper chars just don't have any manners anymore!

Start a lot of projects, work a few hours each to be sure that you need a hour or two to end when you will need, when you are online.
