I was always lead to belive that deliberately using the names of well know people was discouraged if not a breach of CR, doublt so if you attempt to RP in the same mould..
Hell I got a warning for using the name Geddy Lee!

It is fine if you use names from our worlds history. Only their names not how that person would have acted.
We have had Fidel Castro, Eric the Red and Leif (the vikings). Its fine if you use past names like that as long as you are not trying to make them have the same personality as the real person.
It is frowned on and thought of as "unoriginal" by alot of people but its fine as long as your not trying to make them the same as the real person.

So anybody could spawn a charcter named Jesus Christ and make him a total evil nitwit, huh?

If I could bring one of my past characters from the dead, and be able to play them again, that character may have to be Galfer Reidain. He wrote a very neat journal about his living, and I've forgotton to set his last page unedited before he died. A very thoughtful man who really appreciates his friends; hard for me to believe that I just let him starve to death
Galfer's legacy lives on, as one of my chars killed someone in Pok Desert and he had all of galfer's journal entries, they've played an important role on him.
As for me I'd bring back High Priest Alric Von Beetterman..or Damien Bargalowski.
I'd bring back Naleph

Taking names from real life history and literature isn't a CR breach, it is just the product of weak or lazy imagination.
We all did it when we first got into to roleplaying at one point or another.
My first D&D characters where all modeled after the characters in Terry Brooks' Shannara novels.
