SickGerm, which branch of SQL?
SQLite?
Postgresql?
MySQL?
MS SQL?
There's a few out there.
(just joking, I know it probably boils down to MySQL)
MySQL is a database, it can do without other programs, but usually some kind of interface is used.
Web-based interfaces, or other software (MySQL Commander is one I briefly used in the past), or even the plain CMD interface (the standard Windows-thing) can be used.
!@#@$%$# *decides to program his system to stay away from submit-buttons until it's really needed*
As I was saying, there are several interfaces.
I'm no expert on MySQL, but while it's the most commonly used database, there are some beefs with stability and security that could really ruin someone's day.
In the case of Cantr, so far it seems to work out alright in that field (well, as far as the threat-level from malevolent people goes), the database is actively backed up, and there are people working with it, which already means that a potential attacker would have a greater chance of being nailed.
Anyways, that's not important here, but if you're serious about learning, I suspect you'll be spending a lot of time in forums regarding PHP, ASP, and other languages, besides more MySQL-specific forums.
In that case, don't be discouraged by the unavoidable "noob-bashers", they are many in number, but the ones that matter are the ones that will actually answer your questions.

Is it cold sweat and heavy heart beating, or what does it feel like?
Hard to describe... it moves through the muscles, or maybe the veins, of your body, spreading outward from the neck, for a full second or so, maybe two. A bit like... electricity, but not like you get a shock or anything. It's dead cold and very calm, like a flow.
Then it is time to act, lock the game, alert the others, etc... but that ain't physical anymore.
And if you're a professional developer, how do you manage to _not_ goof up every now and then?
No, Nick, no mail bombs for me. My fellow ProgD members have been extremely kind, focusing on solutions rather than blamings, and made a lot of effort to solve something that I could never have alone. Thanks, guys.
We're waiting for Jos to come back online to do the last step... he said it would be around midnight, I'm guessing Ireland time.
Jur.

Ahh, sounds interesting.

A bit off topic, but generally I am careful when I do things.

Jur.
I know that feeling, it happens when you run the restore instead of the update script on a business critical mainframe as well.... and when the tape is 2 weeks old it's a bad bad feeling when you get to the bit when you are actually thinking how to get round it. *Grimaces at the memory*
Jur, like they say accidents happen, and yours was a minor one. I don't think anyone here can say anything, we've all done similar stuff I bet.
