Even for completely new events? That would be odd ...

Jos Elkink wrote:Surly, I'm sorry, I can totally see your point. I'm thinking of a solution right now. Not sure whether there is an easy one (I'm not going to spend hours programming for this ;) ...). Perhaps it would be possible - no promise yet - that every character that is old than, say, 30, can select one skill where it gets a bonus ... But older chars already have such huge advantages simply due to having gathered the right weapons etc. I mean, your chars might not be experts, they are well-weaponed and experienced in Cantr tactics, I presume.
Yes, but what good is equipment if you save under 10 with an iron shield and hit with a sabre for 8 damage?

My fantastic equipment only brings me up to about half the ability of a newspawn with longbow and a wooden shield.

Just seems so, so, wrong.

But thanks for appreciating my problem Jos. Its reassuring... :)

EDIT: The problem is that not all older characters are awful. Mine all are, but not everyone. Only one of my characters has a skill set that reflects the RP... that's the depressing thing.

Oh, and could you assure me that all characters are good at something? Or are my characters just bad at everything?

Excuse my ignorance here, but where are the skills visable?

It's entirely random ... so you could be good at everything or bad at everything ...

Isn't it a good idea that character's skill points together yields constant value? Much more fair I think. Now, if somebody spawn a character, can check its skills and, if not satisfied with them, leave that char to die, creating new one, until he has highly skilled char.

Completely random?

I don't like that at all...

So my already poor characters could end up being poor at everything?

*sighs*

Yeah but they develop. Oh yes they do! I got a character who's lousy attacking people (though skilled with hunting), at first he did 10, then 11, then 12, now 13. So it's definately increasing with practice. I don't think it's about tiredness.

They may suck now, and have stats that directly contradict how I have RPed them for 30 Cantr years... but I will not condemn them to death.

The combat change is doing that for me...

Hmm.. what weapon are you currently using? because theres skills for each individual weapon... Or weapon type at least. If you have a crossbow I sudjust trading in for a Sabre and if you have a sabre I sudjust you trade it in for a crossbow.

This is not true as of yet.

Wasnt sure if it was true but I experienced the same thing my self so it was just a guess ... or something :P

Well I heard some one mentionting they hit better with long range stuff (ex. Cross bow) rather than a sword or something (ex. sabre)Ill try to find who said it.

ahh here we go :D

Unless the database recognizes a distinction between ranged and melee, and has separate skills for each?

RKL, any help here?

Also I noticed that ranged weapons tended to do better against some things than melee...desert tortoises for example. Is my mind just playing tricks on me?

Doesn't matter what somebody says. I run the weapon database and I know that no such programming exists yet.

You see any animals on the road? Try attacking them. If not just wait till you arrive somewhere and start a project.

Oh, and Serenity, you make it sound as if different skills for different weapons are going to be implemented. They are not, at least not currently in the planning.

Oh, no, I did not mean that. But just in case something like that was ever done.

this will defiently put demands on certian types of people (i.e. specialist Smelter, harvester...and so on)

I see how we tell in our fighting but what about everything else?
