Yeah, seriously. Everyone has been having trouble with dal.net, and I don't see what the big deal is to just change it to a new server, that doesn't block out everyone. :|

Jos set up the channel, and chose DALnet. I personally prefer using a chanserv and nickserv-based IRC system. Several of the other major networks use different systems, such as QuakeNet's Q and various other letters.

The problem with DALnet is that it requires you to run IDENT and to open a port for it. That is very difficult to do for most people running a router or a firewall (and everyone should run a firewall, for safety's sake). I myself find it impossible to connect to irc.dal.net but connecting directly to two of the servers mentioned in their server list (at www.dal.net) works. Perhaps they are less strict. The servers are:
hotspeed.sg.as.dal.net
jade.va.us.dal.net

Those who usually can't connect to DALnet should try to connect directly to these servers. If you're not sure how to change that in your IRC client, just type "/server " and then the address of the server you'd like to connect to, e. g. for Jade DALnet you'd type "/server jade.va.us.dal.net". I hope to see you in the Cantr chat!

I haven't been able to connect in months.
But that trick worked. Problem solved, methinks. Anyone with problems, trust her!

Oddly, even being behind a severely restrictive firewall (IRC is about the only thing allowed out that doesn't go through the web proxy) I've never had much problem.

Strange. Once again; I cannot get in.
