To do successful pirating you need at least 3 players, and they should be active. The only way to do that without CRB is actually asking other characters if they wanna join your "band". U can only ask newspawns, and you can do it only if you are a newspawn too - the risk that someone will cry out "OMG PIRATE!!!!" is like 70%, and there will of course be good guy town leader who puts you in jail because one of their promising newspawns shouts out the uncomfortable truth. And even if you get 3-4 bad characters, you need to get a ship (although easier nowadays, still not an instant action). Then you need an equipment, at least bone spears and wooden shields.
Ah, did I forget to mention? If you want to play a pirate, do not do it as a waek fighter. You will avoid many disappointments of being totally useless in battle. I lost like 3 interesting baddies because they were awkard fighters. Dealing 3 damage isn't really battlebreaking. Then an expert and very strong town leader deals you 45 damage and solo drags you to jail. Adventure (and 4 cantrian years of searching for friends and equipment) is over.

And even if you do a successful raid, there's always the big risk that your boat will be hunted down by a much faster boat.
I mean how many newspawns have a raker with sails?

Even if you do have a raker with full sails, you will still be insta-docked to by a dinghy full of town leaders with crossbows, crowbars and enough heal food to let them cancel all damage they recieve. This is because docking is instant if they go after you before the next sail tick.
Creates a situation where the pirates have all the disadvantages, have to do the most clickfesting to get anywhere, have to all be online at the same time, and in the end they will still lose everytime to that town leader dinghy.
Eventually the pirate boat locks are broken and the townies kill them with boring impunity, since the pirates cannot kill even a single one of the insta-healing dinghy people, while their own healfoods are now lost to them.

So why can you only be a pirate when you're a newspawn again?

Due to the high probability that pirate attacks fail, older people know better and don't want to risk losing all the piles of crap they accumulated.

Let's not forget, under the current rules playing a pirate is also very time-consuming and tedious. You get to feel like a complete moron, staying up nights, fretting over "ticks", biting at your elbows while trying to avoid comitting CRBs (all the while rightly suspecting your "goodie twoshoes" enemies might not be so sentimental and include the occasional bit of MSN and Skype to subtly ensure their victory is swift and total), and then when it finally comes to the big moment, you get to swoop into their town... hit 3 people... get tired... and watch them all insta-heal in the next eyeblink.
Many reasonable players just say "no thank you, I'll just grow buttercups instead", and who can blame them?

However, even if attacks were not resolved instantly, it would still heavily favor the town. A numbers advantage is a numbers advantage. The attackers may not be killed, but they won't stick around to finish what they started either when the vans start arriving.
Good thinking.
I asume to stay in the spirit of cantr that radio jammers could be invented? Make them use a resource if you need to limit them (I don't think that will work)

Is there really even a point to having this conversation? I mean, Cantr staff already have a plan in place to improve the game, it's just a matter of implementing it.

Maybe a good way to find partners in crime is to end up somewhere where there's only one person awake or so, the rest asleep, and the population is low in general, while the sleepers have all the wealth. Then you can start telling the awake person/people how it's unfair that the sleepers have all the wealth or convince them they're already dead in a way so killing them would be like doing them a favor. There should be a lower threshold to killing sleepers than people who are actually contributing something. And once you've committed one murder together, it lowers the threshold to repeating it.

I've done something similar to this. Works like a charm. You just need to hit the other players' feely muscles.

I came into this thread thinking it might actually be worth my time, but found it to be nothing but some new type of forum troll looking for a laugh.
Coglio, try making a smart 'evil' character who doesn't have to rely on slaughtering towns to get what he/she wants. I had one who managed to assist in the murder of a town, steal half their supplies and leave, only to join up with a pirate crew and we all reigned terror within a certain location. This all happened before and AFTER the tea changes, and the only thing that changed was to make us smarter in our tactics. Just because you are not capable of doing something like this doesn't mean the game mechanics are to blame, it is because you just are not that good at it.

Yes, but at least Halley's comet doesn't try to complain and change the mechanics of Earth!
