Re: Losing crops
You know, its sad to see these players leave but I think we can get them back. If you just read this evangilist site and replace the phrase "Lost Soul" with "Potential Cantr Player" I think we can increase our numbers. http://www.spurgeon.org/misc/sw08.htm

You know just a wild idea.
but how about changing the world so they have something better to do than sing "hallelujah"?

Re: Losing crops
I feel bad that it took me as long as it did to notice that the number of players went way down, and also to notice this thread..
I feel somewhat responsible for Cantr's number of players, because it's like my job.. a couple days ago I got one of my friends back into Cantr again though.
One thing it made me think of is the fact that Cantr's English Wikipedia page is still down. Wikipedia brings in a lot of players. We still get some from the Wikipedia pages in other languages.
..And I would rather keep feeling that way, because we need more players. Now everyone go post stuff on the internet about Cantr!

Re: Losing crops
HF made an interesting post in another thread. We need to get Cantr reviewed by a reputable gaming website.

Re: Losing crops
So people are leaving in droves and people are more concerned about enticing new players than understanding and addressing the reasons people are leaving?
Wikipedia pages and reviews are a pretty lame, naive and futile solution. You can't fix a leak in your water flask by filling it with more water.

Yes, but you can't stop needing to buy gas by turning off the engine?
Okay, I'm not any good at the analogy game, but there's no reason we can't try to address both at the same time.

We need Cantr noticed.

I did submit Cantr for a couple review sites a couple days ago. But what sites are reputable? If anyone wants to get a list of such sites, please go ahead..

Re: Losing crops
I did a Google Scholar search and got two hits. One was an article in a journal in English, and the other is in Dutch. The English article has only an abstract available for free, but I am sure someone could buy the article or track it down in a library.

Re: Losing crops
People could put more reviews in mpogd.com, because I imagine a lot of people go there in search of free games, and I think I would be more likely to try out a game where the ratings discussed the attractions and flaws of the game than having a page full of "best game ever" and "this is so great". The most recent reviews are from 2008, and the good ones are from 2004. Yet Cantr has been getting new players after 2008 and I think everybody who has joined since then, or joined before but hasn't written a rating, could write one up and submit it in some site people go to.

Re: Losing crops
If you want to know why players are leaving, you might profit form making a field after clicking the X asking if they could give a reason why they quit. It won't stop them from quiting but at least you'll get some feedback why.

Apart from the all so true comment that you cant fill a sieve with a bucket.
Desperately trying to market a world to a audience you cannot hold is a waste of effort.
I am just about advocating world reset as a solution to out problem, The game world has IRL years before it starts to clog itself.
The fact that even basic market tracking through a study of peoples responses to "where did you find us" when they made their account, or an exit poll. Means things get stick in the pipeline for far too long before being produced.
We are unlikely to respond either as a community or as a community with programmers to the fundamental problem with the economy as it is before the problem becomes much worse than it is.
We can however restart the world, and push the problem out into the future, where hopefully we will have had the time to deal with it.
The cost is horrific.

I think if you did a world reset, you would find that a lot of players take the opportunity to leave.

Completely agreed, and I've only been playing for months. Can't imagine how betrayed older players would feel from this.
NO to the reset. There is plenty of game world space that is undeveloped and extremely unforgiving to unprepared newcomers. Tired of the established classes? Go pioneer. I really can't understand what conditions would possibly necessitate resetting the world.

Re: Losing crops
The game world is nowhere near becoming clogged. I have counted about three times as many locations than there are characters and that's only what I've seen mapped. The game world is, by large, empty.
