Okay, I understand that, thanks. But to make an OOC comment in private, say with double brackets to indicate OOC talk, rather than prefixing with ooc:, would be against the rules?

No, Never said that. Consensus here is, omit it if you can, but sometimes it is necessary.

Talking in open about game mechanics with the word "game mechanics" is against the rules (you can of course and should roleplay them), and shows you completly misunderstood what a game like cantr is about, which as far I realized from this thread is what happend in the case here.

IG you are supposed to act IC without mention of OOC mechanics concept or knowledge. OOC: is meant to be used to communicate OOC messages. When you speak of OOC mechanics IC by mentioning they are "Game Mechanics"... It is a bit of a CRB...
Basically come up with an RP or just don't RP at all but don't have your charrie say something about the mechanics without rp IC. Others are then forced to play with it or ignore it.

Cantr IS it's mechanics! The "game world" is NOTHING BUT it's mechanics, the RP is a "flavor" but the mechanics are the actual food.

You guys should realise this will make Yugo start killing WITHOUT any RP in future, rather than his usual watered down RP. And that's the last thing cantr needs.
