The higher authority let her go? I thought it was the high authority that wanted her dead in the first place. Who's higher than Michael Zwellinghart? =p

She's really good at making herself sound innocent...

In Siom or in Reniov?

Ah, yeah...I hadn't planned to actually. I honestly didn't see it coming at all. Suppose I should have learned at that point. I was pretty sad to lose him, though. He was one of my very favourites.

I think the RP level of individuals in Cantr has significantly fallen off. People do not want to RP according to their surroundings all too often, they want to RP what their preconceived notions are about what their character should believe in. Such as equality for all and what not

The characters in RFW were very big on Rping according to their surroundings. They believed that they were a separate race and were superior to all other races. This doesn't happen very often in Cantr unfortunately, which causes the game to be very dull.

Cantr wants to be a society simulator, but in society, there is much inequality and it causes much conflict. Until this occurs in Cantr, the game will continue to cause further disinterest among individuals. I mean seriously, without conflict, there really isn't much for Cantrarians to do.

So how did they get this idea of racial superiority? Did it evolve naturally out of their in-game experience? (It's hard to imagine how this would happen.) Or did players use OOC knowledge of various racist movements in RL history?

By the way, I don't see any "equality for all" being implemented anywhere. Everywhere there is hierarchy. Sometimes it's just one person who has been around a long time and knows what to do and has all the keys, etc. Other times, it's a group of Knights or Guards or what have you with a more organized hierarchy. Only in my frontier town is there anything resembling equality, and even there seniority is important.

The motivations for these arrangements seem motivated by practical considerations. If you only have a handful of people, it's kind of silly to bother with a complex system of ranks and titles and rules. If you have a large town, you need to identify the active and loyal people, channel energy into projects that will advance the town's interests, reward good citizens in various ways, delegate responsibility, etc.

Inequality and conflict exist in Cantr. Maybe it's not like the old days, which I didn't see. But I remember reading that changes in combat mechanics were what made wars fade away. Maybe all the l33t d00dz who pwned n00bs left, and it's mostly love-and-peace hippies left. Or maybe it's the lag.

I should know, but it’s been months since I’ve been here. I could take a guess.

I remember finding out who you were, but I’ve forgotten. I honestly did figure it out once, though.

I’d have to say I agree with you. There’s tonnes of soap opera drama, but the politics is no good. People come into the game with notions of justice and righteousness and honour…Where did that come from? I know most players have morals, but your character shouldn’t be affected by your beliefs, as legitimate as they are. You should come up with your surroundings, like Chris said. Equality for all is a nice sentiment, but where did it come from?

I’ve yet to see a successful ideological or religious movement in this game. Perhaps we don’t need them, but if you’re going to do it, do it right. You have to have an ideology that makes sense, that applies to the people you’d be trying to recruit, that there character could conceivably care about in their life. One that deals with the issues they care about, like why am I so fucking poor? It also has to have some weight. Nobody wants to join a movement that’s not going anywhere. Catch 22.

Thank you.

A very good question, which I’ll be glad to explain in just a moment.

First off, though, I believe you’re right. People do bring a whole lot of their beliefs and morals into this game from the real world.

Thing is, most of the people who’re playing this game in English, and a lot of people don’t understand (and would never even think to call it) racial nationalism, as well as racism. That is to say, middle class folk and up often don’t understand where it comes from. Most people don’t understand how things are when you’re in a highly ghettoized place. They don’t understand what happens when people’s come up all in the same spot. By people’s, I mean social groups, which usually means races.

The fact of the matter is that there is a lot of racial tension and conflict in the world. Put two people’s in the same spot, you’re going to see people identify with their own boys. That’s just the way things are right now.

People don’t understand that racism comes from somewhere. If you don’t grow up with that tension around you, on the front line of the conflict, it’s hard for people to understand. And I can see why.

But the thing is, racism comes from where people come up. Racism has a basis in society. Racist groups and ideologies are based on (some) valid concerns. Neo-Nazis, like what you’re thinking of, are just the extreme segments, who rather than seeing race as an issue, see it as THE issue. But the real racism comes from the day to day.

Now how did my character come about to being an ethnic nationalist? This is probably breaking the Capital Rule, but it’s been a while, and I do love to talk about myself.

He came around and saw that the people who the monarchy was all chummy with were all from very far away places, came off of boats. These people ran the government, didn’t have to obey the laws, were extremely wealthy, owning more than they could ever need in tools, owning all the means of production (Factories) which were run for them by natives who were poorly paid and got next to nothing of the profits, owned tonnes of vehicles. He also saw that all the people born there at the same time as him, as he was coming up, had no chance for advancement. Nobody was going anywhere. You couldn’t get tools or property, you couldn’t climb the social ladder at all, and they were persecuted on the whims of these wealthy foreigners. When a friend of his was killed because one of the wealthy foreigners got angry at him for legally hunting (while other members of the ruling clique continued too.), that set him over the edge and made him realize (to his own mind) that he wasn’t going anywhere. And so he decided to try and get himself ahead.

Look at real life examples. In the U.S.A. (and here) what do black people own? Not a damn thing. There’s tonnes of poor white people too, but the groups that run the country and own everything are no question white. Who owns the MacDonald’s that are open in black communities. Black people? Who owns the franchise?

That’s the reality of things. One group exploits another. Look at the Indian tribes for an example up in Canada. What do they own? Fuck all.

During the 1992 riots down in L.A., who got hit? Koreans who owned business in black neighborhoods. Who owns the corner stores in black neighborhoods up in New York City? Arabs. Koreans and Arabs are definitely not Afro-American. So, to the Afro-Americans, they are Foreigners. Foreigners making profit off them, owning business in their territory.

Whites hate Mohawks. Jamaicans hate Somalians. It happens.

Look at Minister Farrakhan. He’s not happy about any of this. And then look at one of his rallies when he goes up to New York. There’s an audience. That’s because the issues are real.

If you look at it closely, it wasn’t so much that they (NPZ) were directly preaching racial superiority. Just racial nationalism. And also that another race was unjustly persecuting them. Therefore, racial hatred. Not a big step to liking “your own” better than others. Not a big step to the idea of racial supremacy. See what I mean?

I totally agree. There’s tonnes of inequality. Most people are just happy being serfs. Which is just as well, because uprisings are crazy hard to pull off. And I hate it when people have insanely complex hiearchys. There’s simply not enough people or need for a million different ranks. The only ones that make sense are “Ruling class” and “Other”. That’s all you really need.

It was probably my most enjoyable time spent in the entire world of Cantr. Conflict is what makes things enjoyable. I agree there was some solid RPing going on. Schme it is ashame you were asleep for the majority of the time. Things could have been even better.

Honestly, I wish to hell people wouldn't hint about that stuff on the forums. :p
Only once have I, as a player, ever actually legitimately been surprised at hearing about conflicts in the game.
Sure, my characters are surprised, but it's twice as fun when you share the same shock, yourself :p
