Canadians do seem (from what I see from other Canadians I speak to online) to use UK spelling for just about everything (though they have a funny idea of how to play hockey  ). But certainly I've never seen the use of potatoe or tomatoe here. I thought the song was "I say potato ("a" as in bagel) and you say potato ("a" as in archer)" and was therefore to do with pronunciation not spelling - but then I've hardly ever heard it so that may be wrong.

I have made two other earth-shattering discoveries talking to a Canadian clan-mate in my "main" online game. We discovered:

1) That the Duracell Bunny (from UK) doesn't exist in North America. Over there you get the Energiser Bunny - who was basically just a rip-off of the Duracell Bunny. My Canadian friend had never heard of the Duracell Bunny and I'd never heard of the Energiser Bunny. According to the authoritative source on the subject (wikipedia!) the Duracell Bunny was the first (and best!) (ok, maybe it didn't say it was best).

2) The Littlest Hobo, one of the greatest ever Canadian TV series, was actually a US film and a US TV series before the Canadians remade it. The "Maybe tomorrow, I'll want to settle down..." theme tune that we both remembered fondly was from the Canadian one. But we were both amazed to find it was only a good copy...
