Guilty! I've been known to set the alarm to wake me up every 3 hours because of travel ticks if my char is in a hurry.

The problem comes when the thief doesn't talk or respond to multiple warnings to return stuff. They choose to remain silent and keep walking down roads.

That and they aren't always murdered, just brought to NDS, objects retrieved ... then imprisoned and healed ... unless they commit suicide before that point.
