I can't believe how emotionally invested I've gotten in such a short amount of time. It's making me a little crazy pants. I'm thinking I may not be able to keep an emotional barrier between player and character and not only is that bad for me, it probably makes for bad roleplay and the last thing I want is my crazy pants-ness making Cantr bad for others.
And when I walk I'm a cyclone
You should see it get rolling
Open my heart and emotions rip out of me
My emotions rip out of me

Actually, the fact that you have that kind of insight into your own stuff makes you way more balanced than some other people who play this game :P

Hope you stay.

Thank you, that's kind. But when -I'm- having a panic attack because my char is trapped in a house with a feral hmmm... woman who wants to kill her and -I- need to take an Ativan to keep from panicking while I'm at work because my char is locked in jail, probably awaiting certain death... It just gives me pause.

Shouldn't stress yourself, catwill. You don't know what will happen in this certain situation and last I checked.. ie. my char checked, that certain char locked up in jail is safe from everything except herself. Take a deep breath and relax.

I have generally found the forums here to be intimidating and overwhelming, but I am amazed by the kindness I have recently experienced. Thank you all, I will try to "tough it out" through the weekend and keep my eyes and fingers away from that green X.

Just try to remember that the characters only exist in text, that they aren't you and that they don't really feel anything, think anything or do anything. It's a fun game, but you can get too attached to characters.

I think emotional separation is something most new players, and even some old ones, struggle with. None of the characters on my first account made it out of their 40's, because I was so emotionally messed up I had to unsub. I started again with a new perspective and their lifespans have more than doubled, and still on the rise (though I will lose one this weekend that I've let go due to emotional separation issues - sometimes it pays to know when to pull the plug on one to keep the rest of them healthy).

I was certainly more emotionally attached when I started, but I was pretty unstable back then. Some oldbies might remember me cutting myself over somebody threatening to quit and then posting a picture of the scratches. I got a warning from Jos Elkink himself never to do that again. I'm more stable nowadays.

I'm glad you're much more stable nowadays. I find that being healthier in terms of diet, sleep and so on can help lower emotional problems caused by being too attached to characters.

Getting older helps too. I was a completely egotistical jerk when I was a teenager. Now I'm... well, pretty much the same but now I don't get so emotionally attached to my characters.

I have a question, just because I've wondered this for a while. If you hit the X on accident, does it do something like "are you sure you want to delete your account?" or does it just delete it right away? It might sound silly but I constantly worry about it because the turn reports are RIGHT on top of the X and in the morning when I'm tired I click on the wrong things and miss things and there were times I hit the logout button next to the X by accident and had a mini heart attack LOL so it would be nice to know if I hit it without meaning to there's still a going back. Because this is my first round of Cantr so I've never had an account to delete before. Incidentally I still have all my characters, none have died since I started playing. Which is probably going to make me so sad when one of them does =\ and now I'm rambling so I'll move on > >

I'm fairly sure it just goes to a message asking you if you are sure.
