I think there is a very big difference between a jerk char and a poorly RPed char.

I think Scarab and Mr. O'Shan are two of the best consistent RPers I've come across in some time. And while I'd prefer to find out IG, I've got some confidence Scarab will live and Andur will go far in life.

I'm not afraid to admit it, but I would rather deal with a jerk char than a player who cannot spell. It grinds my teeth to have to read from a lazy player. Combine poor speech/or no speech with some theft or slapping, and I'll kill them unless they make me change my mind.

Nah ive got to agree though, in real life if somebody takes, what the equivelent of notes, maybe a notice off a billboard, you dont rip out an uzi and gun them down, even if they refuse to return it, and the same if somebody slaps you, you might be a bit suprised, but again you wouldnt gun them down

Where I am, most people carry a knife, and many have a concealed handgun. If someone started punching, people will defend themselves. And besides, no one said that all cantr towns have to resemble western culture.

EDIT: actually thats always something ive wondered, how do all these tiny little tribal places seem to have infinate supplies of industrial grade paper? when you cant even make a log without working for days im suprised paper just appears outa nowhere :D

So you are saying that if somebody comes up to you and says, "You look terrible today go **** yourself" Then you just slash their throats? Not I! Maybe their car tires, but not their throats.

Cantr towns don't have anything to do with modern times though, yeah there are motorcycles but people go around carrying swords and have kings and things and frontier towns without a lot of structure. In medieval times or in western times if you walked up to somebody and called them names or insulted their wife or whatever they probably would turn around and kill you. At least most people in Cantr would give you a chance by telling you to apolize or leave town or arrest you first.

It's not the amenities that they have the capability of making that make the society so much 1500's-ish or 2006-ish. It's the way the governments are formed and the mentality that the characters have. Cantr, despite it's jeep-technology, is very medieval-ish in governments and mentality for the most part, just as several others pointed out.

Jeeps don't cause social reform.
Social reform doesn't come from jeeps.

I doubt there's even very much correlation between the two.

Society may derive certain satisfactions and rewards from technology such as jeeps, but that technology is very different from social reform technology or desire. Characters can love their jeeps but they won't love their obscenely rude neighbor. Jeeps aren't rude to their benefactors.

I don't even think Cantrian society has reached the medieval level - feudalism, monarchies and centrally organized religion - in most places. It looks more like a network of loosely connected city-states (local governments ranging from village council or despotism to pure democracy), like ancient Greece.

The technology is all over the place, the culture is medieval, and the societal structure is pre-medieval.
