I think, Fleegle, that getting a character started would actually be easier once children are implemented. Sure, it'll take a little longer, but hopefully the earlier suggestion of accelerated aging until 20 years would be used and you'd be a full 'spawn' in a shorter period of time.

I like to look at it this way: If you spawn a char, you could end up in the middle of the Pok Desert with no food to eat, no bone shield to protect you from the tortoises or the bandits, no friends to help you out, and no weapon to fight back with. You might not even make it to the next section of the desert without kicking the bucket. A couple planning on having children would (hopefully) have food and perhaps a house, and they would protect your new character until you could grow up and do your own thing... if you so choose.

I could play a kid easily! With the whining and all the annoying questions, talking back and threatening to run away.
And I begged her give me horses
To trample down my enemy
So eager was my passion
To devour this waste of life
But she would not think of battle that
Reduces men to animals
So easy to begin
And yet impossible to end
