I guess we get no compensation for all the stuff stolen during this infernal period?Jos Elkink wrote:Docking on docked ships is disabled now.
We're still working on how to deal with docking on sailing or floating ships that are locked. For now this works as it used to.
*sighs*
Of course not... well, I might as well start collecting stuff again, I wouldn't want the thieves who exploit the next boating bug to be disappointed...

Sometimes compromises must be made. In this case game balance/playability trumps realism.
I like Nick's idea. It would be equivalent, but easier to implement, if it were coded so that pushing a boat off undocks but does not move it, since a boat that is in the same location as another can dock instantly. That is going on my list of suggestions.

I am not making an argument about reality, if you read my other posts you will see I do not want cantr to be like rl, however if you can only steal boats that are out at sea, you will effectively kill the pirate group of cantrians, as there are many less boats at sea and they are much harder to find and dock to than boats that are docked to land. However, we could make it so that boats inside buildings, such as harbours or landing stages, are undockable, this would encourage people to build buildings for their boats, and the pirates would still be able to live like they want.

Pirates have been alive and well for most of the history of Cantr. The docking change is only a few weeks new. Reverting docking should not be considered a change, but a fix.
I've clarified the boat-pushing suggestion on my original post. If it doesn't correspond with the way you interpreted the suggestion, I'm sorry about that.

A couple of concerns I came up with while writing the latest addition to the proposal:
What happens if you try to push a ship off a ship docked to land (directly or indirectly)?
Possible solutions:
Forbid that. Pirates can't dock to a docked ship anyway.
Cause the pushed ship to undock to the nearest water.
Cause the pushed ship to go where the big ship was before it docked to land.
What happens if you push off a small boat (dinghy, dugout canoe) unmanned? Will it just float forever?
Possible solutions:
Forbid that. The proposed lock change should prevent situations where this is necessary.
Make it possible for large ships to dock to ships that can dock to them - difference being that large ship must be in instant-dock range.
