And if someone is speaking OK would sound just like okay... it is a little lazy... but still.

As much as we try, there are going to always be common, rl phrases integrated into our characters because that is what we know. Okay, Ok, alright, what the heck, no problem, the list goes on... The ones that general aren't a drawback to the game; they're just there because otherwise it would be harder to communicate, because there would be a lack of knowing what to say.

"We're going to travel to Blipity-Bloo and collect 10,000 grams of magnetic rock," says Far-fetched Storyteller.
"Okay," says loyal apprentice.

What else would someone say? They might say 'sure', 'yes', 'that sounds good', or many other things; most likely a combination of a lot of them. But okay is a word that is just there and is very oftenly used. It's a word. Not really a phrase even. Just a word. It shouldn't be that much of a bother as it is a word in the English language. Not a senseless expression. Now you could be original and say something like... 'zigagadopy' to mean the same as okay, but then you'd have to explain it and the word okay might come up in the explanation.

Maybe a senseless expression for IC would be something more like, "Don't count your chickens before they're hatched" as it's referring to something that none of my characters have even seen in game, therefore making it nonsensical blather. Such things as that I can understand as annoying and maybe a good reason to play like your character doesn't understand them.

I do think it would be interesting for characters to come up with some new, unique, Cantr-related phrases and terms to use IC such as "Don't collect the wool before you kill the sheep." I don't know, I'm not very good at coming up with things like that just out of the blue while I'm writing here. I probably would be inspired by something one of my characters did or was around and would be able to make them say something more original and Cantrianized. Or not. Whatever. It still would be nice to see some more (and original sounding) Cantrianized phrases floating around though.

I'm too long-winded for 4 in the morning....

It doesn't fit that category. My post was never meant to be and wasn't bashing. That was the furthest thing from my mind. I fail to see how you can interpret it as such.
I have only stated that I don't want to argue with him and suggested a source of information. How is that 'bashing'?
I like Schme and think he has made some very good points in his posts. That doesn't mean I have to agree with all of them, though. This is a DISCUSSION forum, after all.

And the reason I rarely post is because certain people seem to have nothing better to do with their lives than pick holes in other peoples opinions.

Nitpicking? Goooood
If the subject is "spelling and grammar" doesn't that require a plural?
Spelling and grammar are ...

Hmmm... I suppose both are possible.

If you want to say "Are spelling and grammar such a crime?" Then you take "spelling and grammar" as the coordination of the nouns "spelling" and "grammar", resulting in the topic of the sentence.

In the case of "Is spelling and grammar such a crime?" there is most likely a contraction involved, meaning that the original sentence was "Is spelling such a crime and is grammar such a crime?" (coordination of sentences instead of nouns) in which "such a crime" gets contracted. Another example of a contraction is by the way: "John bought her flowers and Ben a box of chocolates."

I have only little knowledge of contractions, especially in English, and I can't be bothered to look it up. Anyway, it is possible from a syntactic (= grammar) and semantic (= studies of meaning) point of view.

From an English perspective, the sentence should read:

"Are spelling and grammar such crimes?"

Simple subject-predicate agreement.

I'm disappointed when people don't bother to use correct capitalization or keep shortening words, like u, plz... lol and brb such are so common that they would seem weird written in their full forms so that's ok, but ur seems to be the beacon of a lazy, illiterate generation.

Back in the nineties I think it was, I used to read these books about Net Detectives and in the first book they were teaching a newbie how they shouldn't be writing all caps lock on because that's shouting, and teaching all nice sides of netiquette. Where have all those lessons gone?

If you would take typing lessons for just one year, you'd have no trouble writing fast and correct even without using abbriviations and with using capitalization and punctuation. The latter ones are invented to make the text more easy to read. And this is my personal opinion but writing lowercase makes you seem more stupid than you are, maybe because 99% of troublemakers and stalkers are writing that way. Bad writing should only be used for paroding the stereotypes.

We learn on the first class that there are two sorts of letters, big and small. Right? Now using them both is showing respect to the one reading it. Because using just lowercase or uppercase is like telling the reader that he or she is two dumb to handle them both, a mental preschooler. Either that or the writer is. You don't want to be a preschooler, right? Three hours of practicing every week and in a few months you can use all of your fingers instead of just one. Makes you a whizz in games that require fast typing, like Yahoo Graffiti.

Then to Cantr. Later on I've seen a wave of newspawns who write all lowercase and usually oneliners, of course without punctuation. That makes me think there must be some 12-year-old behind the scene and I don't feel tempted to interract with them. Some of them can rp, and if someone is rp'ing well then I stop minding if they're making a bunch of typos and being lazy with the shift key. But I gotta say if I see someone writing correctly, they're more likely to give a positive impression. Like they were the pretty people in Cantr. I'm treating lowercase talking in Cantr as mumbling or twittering. It sounds funny. And if someone starts with correct writing but switches on to lazy writing, that usually kills the impression I've gotten of them. I've never refused to interract with someone just because they can't write correctly, but I'm often rather uninspired to communicate with them.

One liners, missing the shift keys.... I do that sometimes, sorry. But some times I press the enter key too quickly before I could correct my mistake, its a habit I am still trying to break.... and I use 'one-liners' because I, alot of the times, accidentally press the enter key too quickly... I try to stop that from happening, but sometimes I am just too late...

Sometimes I miss the shift key... eg I press the letter, and then I press shift, in which case, the shift key becomes useless. And by the time i realise it, the message has already been sent.

 Grammer, rules of a language governing the sounds, words, sentences, and other elements and language features and their combination and interpretation; also the study of these ab-stract features or a book presenting the rules....

 You will have to excuse me, I have a cognitive deficit when it comes to the letter A and E.

Alas a lot of people i have met while bashing away on my keyboard have this problem with I and E.

About 50% spell the word Thief completly back to front, But as i'm not here to critisise others and i'm enjoying Cantr, I think i have said enough...... :)

I agree! Somewhat...

In my opinion, communication is nothing more and nothing less than information exchange. As long as the information is received by the reader, the communication was successful. It isn't easy however to mould information in a linguistic utterance and it is even harder to extract information from a linguistic utterance, so the more consensus about the rules of information packing between the conversation partners, the higher the chance is that the communication will be successful.

So it is not a necessity to use correct spelling and correct grammar, but it sure helps in achieving successful communication.
