Otherwise it could have stayed changeless from where it was since I joined Cantr 2 years ago. I would say that a good portion of what you have now didn't exist or was much easier to get then it is now. Just to prove my point, steel was a raw resource that could be extracted from the ground when I first joined. Animals did not exist. Bodies that died inside buildings mysteriouly ended up outside. No population ecentric spawning. Iron was a raw resource taken from the ground. The War Bow, Sabre, Sword, and Iron Shield were just as easy to build as a Hunting Bow or Wooden Shield. The two main tools was a trowel and a hammer (since you could build almost anything with them) and most everything else was either used for building just one thing and then was useless for anything else. The dung fork was the best weapons/tool because you could use to fight and gather food at the same time. You couldn't knock on doors. Clothes didn't exist. Lots and lots of bugs and bandwidth problems that often took Cantr off line for days if not months if not even longer at a time. Over those two years Cantr has been improved upon and made better and we are continuing that but sometimes that creates some hicups in the game but in the end we will get everything back together and made better. Trust me.

Ah... the good old days

OK, I can live with that. :)

Yes, hunting bow/longbow went up from a regular 22 to 25 this time.

Serenity (rklenseth) wrote:You must also take note that weapons do random damage now rather than a set damage like in the past.

Well, damage levels seemed regular before. Is this also new? And what do you mean... how random? :?

Ok, is it just me or does everyone else agree with me that ALL characters should recognize the bows as the weapon they have held for many years in the game? I find it very annoying people all over the place suddenly being suprised IC with the change saying things like...

"WHERE DID THIS COME FROM??"

Blah, it should be recognized by your character as the weapon you have had for many years...

Well,

first I knew about the change was when I saw somebody hunt with a weapon I'd never seen before and I made a remark about that... only then I saw I had one in my own inventory as well.

Oh and I liked "war bow" as a word much rather then recursive... whatever, I forgot again. Sorry Serenity, I'm no bow specialist and even after your explanations it remains hazy to me. I'm guessing this will lead to IG comments like "Hey Joe, could you build me a composite thingy?". There's nothing wrong with longbow (except for the double "bow"), though as people said before I had imagined this one to be more basic (just a piece of bent wood with a string).

Finally: I think a change like this should be implemented "as a whole", i.e. including possibility to build new bows. As it is, you can't build bows, at least for a few days... and what happens if there is NO consensus on the change in the Council, Serenity?

There should have been a notice on the front page for such a major change, really...

(major as in affecting so many people; I know it's no effort to do)

I agree with Rev, i mentioned the same thing in a conversation on msn... that there should be a message to all the players before the change happens.

And uh can someone tell me about the change should it be a surprise to find the bow in your inventory?

No, it shouldn't, if you ask me.

There are constant changes to the programming of the game being made. It would not be practical to send messages to all players whenever something was being changed.

Annoying though it may be, I don't think this is something you should lose any sleep about. In the end, this issue has almost no significance in the game.

But, feel free to discuss it to death five times over here if it makes you happy.

Have sinews been added to the game yet? Just I noticed the new bow type and was wondering.

Yes.

Not from anything I've killed yet. Let me guess. An exceptionally rare breed of swamp cat? :?

Nah, I don't think I've given away anything when saying I've gotten sinew from hunting just today.

You haven't killed anything yet that would have large or strong enough sinew that could be used on a bow powerful to penetrate animal hide or human skin.
